Melbourne, February 10: India relied on an outstanding display by their pacemen to script a hard-fought five-wicket win over world champions Australia in a low-scoring tri-series cricket one-dayer.

The lanky Ishant Sharma (4/38) produced a devastating spell of seam bowling and was well supported by fellow seamers S Sreesanth (3/31) and Irfan Pathan (2/26) to bundle out the mighty Australians for a paltry 159 in 43.1 overs.

The Indians then overcame some anxious moments before overhauling the home team's target with 25 balls to spare to record their first win the tri-series after their first two games were abandoned because of rain.

Sachin Tendulkar (44), young Rohit Sharma (39 not out), Gautam Gambhir (20) and skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni (17 not out) were the notable contributors for India in the low-scoring match on a difficult track at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

A wide from part-timer Andrew Symonds brought the winning moment for India who also recorded their first ODI win at the MCG after a long gap of 22 years.

The victory has boosted India to the top of the points table with 8 points from three matches while the Australians were just one point behind them on the table from three games.

Sri Lanka were in the third position with just two points from two matches.

The Indians will now travel to Canberra to play their next match against Sri Lanka at the Manuka Oval on Tuesday.

Silence is deafening by SVS on 11 Feb 2008

Not one word from the Indian media about Sachin Tendulkar not walking when he was clearly out? Isn't he the example used by all you Indians over the last 6 weeks as an exemplary player? At least we saw Tendulkar's true Indian colours. He had a great opportunity to show the world India play the game in the true spirit buit chose not to. The Indian media forgot to mention Adam Gilchrist being dismissed incorrectly as well. I can't imagine India would want to have Koertzen sacked, although he made the same errors as Bucknor did. Did Australia complain at the end of the game about the bad decisions and call for sackings and withdrawing from playing? Australia accepted the lost and look forward to the next match. A sad day for India's credibility, again.

Did Sachin know he hit the ball? It is not always easy with the kind of wild swing he had. Sehwag was given out wrongly too. Quite a few Australians were given not out when they were clearly LBW.

Sachin knew by Taj on 16 Feb 2008

Sachin has been playing international cricket for 20 years. He knew he hit the ball. Which Australians were not given out when they should have been? Sehwag should have been out earlier as well. Simi, stop making excuses for your hypocite team.

Ishant Sharma by Ashi on 11 Feb 2008

Ishant hs definitley bowled with comfidnece and that is what needed for our Indian cricket team.
