Ludhiana, September 02 State-level function held to celebrate young singer’s birth anniversary; Ishmeet Singh Foundation launched

Gurpinder Singh and Dr Charan Kamal Singh, father and uncle of singer Ishmeet Singh who died in Male a couple of weeks ago, will leave for Maldives tomorrow to initiate an inquiry into the circumstances that led to the death of the young singer.

Ishmeet had died last month at a beach resort in Male while swimming in a hotel pool. The Star Voice of India 2007 winner was in the country along with a troupe in connection with the second series of the same show which was on air. Eyewitnesses claimed that Ishmeet had gone deep into the water.

Though post-mortem report of the late singer clearly states that he had died due to drowning yet his family has all along been maintaining the late singer knew how to swim. "We want to establish the circumstances that led to his death. How could he drown in a hotel pool where there are waiters and other hotel staff around," said Dr Charan Kamal Singh, Ishmeet's uncle. Apart from the family the state government had also appealed to the Government of India to press upon the Maldives government for a detailed inquiry into the incident. The post-mortem was conducted at the Civil Hospital as Maldives has no provision for conducting the examination.

Meanwhile, the family celebrated the young singer's birthday that falls today. The family announced the launching of Ishmeet Singh Foundation which is headed by his father. Dr Charan Kamal Singh said, "This foundation is an independent body that will work towards promotion of music and art in the state." The family apart from visiting the local gurdwara also cut a birthday cake in the memory of the 21-year-old singer. The state government held a musical evening in the memory of the late singer.
