Jamia Vice-Chancellor Prof Mushrul Hasan met Singh to apprise him of the decision of the university to provide legal aid to the two students, a move criticised by the BJP.
"There is nothing wrong in providing legal aid. In this case, I have got full details. Whatever Mushirul Hasan told me, I understand in this context, the decision of the university is in the interest of the nation," Singh said.
BJP has demanded dismissal of the Vice-Chancellor and termed the decision as ‘atrocious, anti-national and highly objectionable’.
After meeting the minister, Hasan said BJP's allegation that the university was diverting the government funds for providing legal aid was ‘baseless’.
"Providing legal aid is the decision of the Academic Council. Legal aid is the constitutional right of every person. We stand by our decision. There is no question of my resignation," he said.
Noting that the classes have been running smoothly and the recent incidents have not affected the confidence of students, he said, "the confidence of students has gone up after my interaction and peace march in the campus".
Appealing to political parties not to politicise the issue, Hasan said, "if it is politicised, the repercussion will not be good".
Asked whether he was facing any threat, Hasan said it should not affect the ‘principle’.

What a senile state of mind of the Minister for Human Resources Mr. Arjun Singh must be in, when he okayed the use of University Funds to defend the Terrorist who killed not only innocent people BUT Police Official too. The University Grants Commission grants the funds to the Educational Institutions, which is a Tax Payer Money. Why these funds should be used to defend the "Traitors " of the nation. If Mr. Arjun Sigh is so concerned about the Civil Rights of an Individuals he must spend his own money to prove that those were not "Traitors” and then claim it form the Government. There are several "Azmi's" who are loaded with funds and they can fund the money for the defense of the “Traitors”. Who were found planning several such Terrorists attacks in the Nation which has provide them bread and butter since their birth.Please forward this mail if you can to the Minister and the Vice-Chancellor.Dr. Ambekar.
someone sensible person must go to Supreme court and ask for suspension of this idiot VC and as well crooked Arujun Singh. His works about jamia uni. is the height of his ignorance of one must have about any academic institution. This clearly shows how he is supporting muslims !!! By now, we all know Arjun Singh indulges in childish activities just to remain in lime-light. I am quite sure, he must have recorded in his "Will", that he be burried and not cremated!
Let us not pronounce them guilty till the charges are proven. Please bear in mind that providing legal aid is not pronouncing a verdict. If the court finds them guilty, they will be procecuted.
If Mr. Hasan really wants to provide legal aid, he could have used the money he earns. It is true that legal aid is constitutional right of anyone but legal aid is not obligation of university. If it is a private institute, it might be decision of the individual university. However if the institute runs on government money, they have no right to use government money for this purpose.
It is best Arjun Singh steps down.We have yet to witness a more communal politician in free India.He should also change his name to Alludin Khilji

In principle it is the right of everyone to have legal counsel. The state is supposed to provide one in case the person cannot afford it. In that sense money can be spent by the state. However the money going through JMU's fund which is given to it for other purposes is highly fishy. Endorsement by a person like Arjun Singh who would do anything to come to limelight is not worth a dime.
If Arjun Singh had lost his children or wife in the bomb blasts, he would not be defending this VC charlatan who is using government educational funds on defending terrorists.
Shame on your Arjun SIngh. At least honor our country for the sake of people who fought for the country. you and your congress party will even sell the country to remain in the power. you are most horrible minister in the Indian history. You will realize the pain of terror only if your family member suffers.
Legal aid is constitutional right.
I really wonder when will India be spared from the wrongs being inflicted on its body politic by the likes of Arjun Singh, Ramvilas Paswan, Lallu Prasad, Mulla Mulayam and his acolyte Amar Singh. Rather than media giving space to their irresponsible behaviour like Arjun Singh supporting Jamia VC for spending Govt funds on defending the indefensible, it should follow a self evolved censor to completely deny this privilege to all the above people who should be booked under high treason provisions of the relevant law. Shame on the media who idolise the utterings of these selfish to the core enemies of India.

Arjun singh's O.K to back the decision of the Jamia Milia University to provide legal aid to alleged terrorists will demoralise the police force in carrying out investigations in right earnest. What a Government! The legal aid means money of the Nation to be used for defending terrorists!!! It is shameful and height of communalism practiced by the vicechancellor and H R D Minister!! it can happen only in India where on one hand police will be prosecuting and on other with Government money a university will be defending jehadi terrorism!!! In free democratic India, all citizens have right to free legal aid.Why a muslim university is politiciseing the issue, tomorrow it will be Hindu or Christian university, so on and so forth, where will it end, ON THE STREETS.Is this university, teaching its students to be a good and proud citizen or try to defend rogue students, let the court decide that, stay out of religious politics. Mr Hasan, enough of Jinnah and muslim league, "ALL MUSLIM ARE BROTHERS,GOOD , BAD OR ROGUE JIHADHI."As far Mr Singh is concerned, guy is senile and trouble maker.
