Brisbane, March 5: Sachin Tendulkar has hailed the ‘fantastic job’ done by India's young players in ensuring the team's triumph in the tri-series against Australia, but has underlined the contributions of players who have been around for 7 or 8 years.

The master batsman, whose unbeaten 117 and 91 in the two finals against Australia was the key to the victories, also cautioned against getting too euphoric about the triumph, saying the team has to take gradual steps towards becoming the world's best side.

"It's important we take gradual steps. So far the youngsters have done a fantastic job," he said after the thrilling nine-run win over Australia that gave India their maiden tri-series win Down Under.

"This young team has done very well but if you look at cricketers who have been around for 7-8 years, they have contributed in a big manner as well," he added.

Tendulkar also downplayed his individual contribution to the team's win and said the triumph was a collective effort.

"I don't want to speak about my performance but my feeling is everyone has done an excellent job," he said.

Tendulkar termed the win as the second biggest for Indian cricket after the World Cup.

"Other than the World Cup, for me this is the greatest win. Everyone in the team, including the coaching and support staff, need to be complimented for having done an excellent job," he said.

Although busy celebrating, a few other members of the team also spoke about the nerve-wracking final that went right down to the wire.

All-rounder Irfan Pathan talked at length about the final over which he was asked to deliver.

"Mahi (Mahendra Singh Dhoni), after the first two balls, told me not to worry: you are not as bad a bowler that you would be hit for three fours in as many balls," he said.

"That gave me the confidence. I had gone for cheap runs in the game but it wasn't for bad bowling. Some were overthrows, some streaky boundaries and all that, but my rhythm was good and I was able to swing the deliveries," he added.

Opener on the day, Robin Uthappa was over the moon and claimed that the coming few years are going to be the best for Indian cricket.

"I was watching the game at home and heard Ricky Ponting say that they would wallop India by 4-0 and that Australia would have a cakewalk in ODIs. Well, they didn't," he quipped.

"It got me going. It's been a good young side which has shown a lot of energy in the field," he added.

Uthappa himself played a part in India's solid foundation in both the finals where he put on 50 and 94 runs for the first wicket with the irrepressible Tendulkar.

It’s fantastic, but don’t forget seniors: Sachin by Dr. Cajetan Coelho on 09 Mar 2008

India is gradually turning into a super power in world cricket.

sachin by mayank on 06 Mar 2008

Sachin is GOD when it comes to cricket all over th world. n I'm really proud on my own public who's showing this kind of support here in blogs. Dont u fools understand, Sachin is at a place where no one has ever reached. i'd just say tht please think twice before saying anything to the man. He has done so much for this country and he still has to prove that he deserves a place in the team.

shubhrata by megh on 06 Mar 2008

well, it was the senoirs batting and few youngsters who bowled well, so the selection committee cannot forget the seniors. ofcourse we need to be futuristic and think of building a team which promotes young talent and help them groom for the future.

cricket by ramarao on 06 Mar 2008

Indians should know cricket by Yusuf Patel on 06 Mar 2008

Mr. Ramaraou r correct. I appreciate yr u/standing of cricket. 10dulkar, Ganguly, Dravid, Kumble r playing since 16 to 18 yrs with brilliant records in cricket but they fail to lift India W/C for once. We should surprise when we loose any clash bcos We are 1 billion ppl

Legend's Views by Ashok Mehdiratta on 06 Mar 2008

I agree with Sachin's views that this was the greatestwin since WC83 England.World Series 85 and T20 rekindled the spark once again and this CB series has brought out Team India on Top.Let us behappy and enjoy but donot losefocus of objective.NOT ONLY WE HAVE TO REACH ON Top but continue to stay there.Buildings are made on strong foundations and that was laid by Seniors. We learn from the History and past is equally for a brighter future.

It’s fantastic, but don’t forget seniors: by Venkat on 06 Mar 2008

Sachin always try to undermine young players. Right now the talk is about the tringular series win by India, not who has contributed in the last 7-8 years. Then how about those who contributed 15-20 years ago? He talks about taking "gradual steps", and that means bring back some of the discarded oldies back. Once somebody asked him about some very young person from the same school as Sachin's I think, who made a huge score (a quickfire double hundred), Sachin said he is quite young, and it will take some time for him to get into big leage. Was not he himself young when he got into big leage?

Sachin proved by venkatrama reddy on 06 Mar 2008

Sachin is right. We have to be very carefull.Sachin did very great job and he proved once again that he can change things with single hand.We want to see him until next world cup.

Conrgrats by Steve on 06 Mar 2008

Well done India on a good series win. But, one win does not make a champion. Look at England after they beat Aust in the Ashes. You have a long way to go to be considered the best in the world. Cant wait to meet and beat you in India soon - again!

cricket win by apu bhargava on 05 Mar 2008

Mighty and the rude Aussies have been brought down to their knees by the Indian tigers. To remain on top be grounded

indian victory by A.Bhargava on 05 Mar 2008

This victory over Aussies has put the indian team on cloud 9'. Kudos and keep it up

cricket by gene on 05 Mar 2008

Well done India. Cricket is like battle or war. You have won the toughest battle against us. But don't be complacent, for the future. You must be even stronger.Gene (Australia)

Sachin, u for the 1st time sucessful by Yusuf Patel on 05 Mar 2008

Sahin, Saurav, Rahul and Kumble are the 4 Indian giants in the world of the cricket. They all are playing for India since 16 to 18 years but never made Indian team lift the W/C.It is good that Sachin for the first time help India to get victory in CB Series. I am never against Indian team but our (Indian) tendency is to be surprise when Indian team beats Aussie. India is the country of one billion ppl

Euphoria by Sridhar on 05 Mar 2008

Correct, don't be euphoric. Wise people learn from the mistakes of others. Learn a lesson or two from the English who beat the Aussies in England, became euphoric and then went on to lose everything from then on. And also learn from the seniors like Sachin and from their advice.
