The manner of producing, directing and acting in films is undergoing a rapid change. “It is good time in Bollywood for making different kind of films. During the 80s and 90s, making different cinema was fraught with all sorts of problems and obstacles,” said Mishra.

He said a new kind of cinema is taking shape and a new India is emerging in which people want to see stories that are connected to reality.

The scriptwriter-director, on a brief visit to the city, said the challenge for filmmakers now is to make films which have a 'real link' without being dull.

He said directors like Prakash Jha, Imtiaz Ali, Raju Irani, Shriram Raghavan and Vishal Bhardwaj, who are working with big stars are not averse to making realistic films.

Mishra said he and other directors like Anurag Kashyap and Dibakar Banerjee were making a different kind of cinema.

The 'Yeh Saali Zindagi' director said he did not agree with the view that the story in films is losing out to technique.

The filmmaker, who began his film career as an Assistant Screenplay Writer with Kundan Shah's popular comedy 'Jaane De Bhi Yaaro' in the 80s said even in this age of globalisation and marketing, filmmakers and actors were coming from small places and bringing their culture with them.

"Their presence in the cinema today cannot be stopped," Mishra said.

He said that he hailed from Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh and added that whatever he had got was because of the cultural ethos of the place.
