US Undersecretary of State Nicholas Burns told Reuters on Friday that ‘time was wasting’ and warned India needed to move quickly to clear remaining international hurdles if the deal was to go through this year.
And in an interview released on Saturday and due to be broadcast on Sunday, the US ambassador to India David Mulford went a step further, saying this might be India's last chance.
"If this is not processed in the present Congress it is unlikely that this deal will be offered again to India," he told CNN-IBN. "If it were to be revived it would have to go through the Committee process and I think the non-proliferation groups would insist on changes in many of the terms or additional conditions".
"So I think the atmosphere is changing and therefore I believe, and I know both Republicans and Democrats believe in the United States, this is the time to finish this deal."
Asked if this meant it was now or maybe never, Mulford said: "That's pretty close to it."
The deal would give India access to US nuclear fuel and equipment for the first time in 30 years even though New Delhi has tested nuclear weapons and refused to join nonproliferation agreements.
Proponents argue the deal will be the cornerstone of a new strategic relationship between the two nations. Some Indians, however, feel it infringes on their sovereignty while some nonproliferation advocates believe it undermines the global system designed to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons.
Government's communist allies have warned they would withdraw support from the coalition if the deal was pushed through, but they have allowed the Government to continue talks with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) over the deal.

With quota, it will be students good quota of luck, who will enter into these institutions and compound the problems, as there would not be any next generation to handle sophisticated nuclear plants in a sophisticated way, and if they melt down due to quota mechanics as they do not understand well about quantum mechanics, great harm will be done to the nation.

I do not equate Bindrawale with Shri Guru Gobind Singh as equals; and the difference is as if between light and darkness. However, nuclear deal can achieve humanitarian goal by uplifting the standard of living of many poor and downtrodden, and making available more resources for vital things such as education, infrastructure and jobs. This will benefit everyone despite any caste, religion, quota or un-quota, and other kinds of 'distinctions' popular in India:)

If India does not complete the deal, It will be isolated. Those who proefess we can do without this deal are wrong because lots of Nations won't cooperate with India, including Sovietes and Chinese. It's credibility will be less and those who think it is okay to be isolated are stupid and not fit to comment on such matters. Communists are non patriotic Indians, they do not comment when Chinese attack us and take away our territory but they are very eager attack USA on a smallest cause. I am sorry to say that is not very smart at all.

The Congress party threw in the towel.The Indian Parliament DISAPPROVED it.The following points are pertinent:-1.Hyde Act will be SLAVERY for India to the USA,forever.Hence it is NOT ACCEPTABLE.2.TIME,is an important element in negotiations,and India cannot afford to commit a very serious blunder,by compromising on this very important factor.3.Such deals,should NOT be signed with any SINGLE nation,and NOT AT ALL WITH THE USA.4.India can sign a deal with an International Body like the IAEA,which will not IMPOSE the Hyde Act,on us,and India need not be a slave of any Nation.4.40 years is too long a time,and hence this DEAD and ABORTED deal should be scrapped.5.India's indigenous Thorium-Based Nuclear power cycle is favourable from all points of view and should be the corner stone of her Nuclear programme. Going by all the above(and more) the DEAD and ABORTED deal,is NOT AT ALL in India's interest and is highly dangerous and adverse. The USA should stop arm-twisting and intimidating India,ex-IMF M M Singh,member Club Of Rome and the Italian Woman.
Considering that our country is in dire need for the nuclear energy of which India's nuclear reactors are already facing starvaion and also the energy being the back-bone for India's industrialisation to compete in the world, it is time by eschewing their narrow political differences, all political parties, unanimously had supported the congress led, UPA government for going ahead with the finalisaion of the Indo-US nuclear deal, 123 Agreement. India's concerns about its nuclear weaponistion and carrying out nuclear tests, as and when required and all other related issues having being fully addressed, any dilly-dallying on the part of India towards finalisation of the Indo-US nucler deal now, will be at India's peril. Australia holding 44% of world's uranium is redy to supply India with its requirements for generating nuclear energy, provided the Indo-US nuclear deal is fnalised.
But it does not guarantee anything but inspection? He also said there was a right of return in this deal..............So we should wait till 2010 and not depend on imported uranium like imported oil, when we will achieve self-reliance in nuclear by building the first commercial scale fast breeder reactor, from 10,000 MWe production capability to the ability to generate 500,000 MWe, and that too without inspection or importing anything. Further our AHWR will be made in the 11th plan which will use thorium increasing energy potential hundreds of times further. We can then be a net seller of technology, instead of being a buyer,as the world needs nuclear energy.
