Hyderabad, March 3: Ahead of Lok Sabha polls, Left parties attacked the UPA dispensation for leading the country on a "highly iniquitous and socially unjust path" and pitched for intensifying efforts to build a third political alternative to Congress and BJP through common struggles on people's issues.

"Our party thinks it is time we make every effort to build a Left and democratic alternative to both Congress and BJP rule through common struggles on people's issues and by evolving an alternative Left and democratic programme, CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan said while inaugurating his party's 20th national Congress here.

Speaking as a fraternal delegate, CPI (M) General Secretary Prakash Karat suggested gathering other democratic and secular forces to find a way out of the ruling class consensus which is leading the country on a "highly iniquitous and socially unjust path".

"A Left initiative is required for creating and presenting a third alternative before the people", Karat said and pointed out how the Left parties have acted as sentinels of people's interests during the last four years of UPA rule.

The four-day event, being attended by over 1,000 delegates, including communist guests from 30 countries, would deliberate on a plethora of issues including Indo-US nuclear deal, price rise, agrarian crisis and problems of the unorganized sector and chalk out strategies for the next elections.

Senior party leaders including D Raja and S Sudhakar Reddy and representatives of fraternal parties including CPI (M), All India Forward Bloc and Revolutionary Socialist Party are attending the meeting.

Dump The Left by Paul Emmanuel on 24 Mar 2008

By the same tone, I - a responsible Indian citizen - feel that it is 'High' time the entire nation dump the Left and allow the country to move ahead with the progress it has been making at the global level.

Communists, for a third front by Neel on 24 Mar 2008

Nothing can be more ridiculous, when these communists talk of democratic alternative, when their modus operandi is firmly rooted to denying people any democratic alternative other than the so called communism, best current example being Nandigram in West Bengal. History is replete with tales of communist intimidation and violence on the people in West Bengal, the reason why no alternative has been allowed to grow there for the last two and half decade. These Communists are actually agents of foreign forces like China, and their primary objective is to work against India's national interest, in the name of global fight against capitalism. These communists are cancer on the nation and they need to be eradicated in order for India to survive as a nation.

Made in China by VVH on 24 Mar 2008

Why do want to screw the nation. They should try their china made governance in the states they rule and bring prosperority there. In real sense Bangal needs alternative.

These Commies!!!! by Anant on 24 Mar 2008

For 5 full years, these commies have enjoyed power and now they want to find alternative to Congress and BJP?They are not only shameless and opportunists, they are anti-India

Alternative in governance by M on 24 Mar 2008

Yes, we do need an alternative. But, it should most certainly not be left dominated and headed by some brain dead compromise PM . We want an alternative which will force Indians to follow the laws of the land instead of bickering and complaining about everything.

Left wants to be right !!! by Debasis Sengupta on 24 Mar 2008

Party who is always in opposing for anything does not suit their ineterst.... how they will manage the interest of so many people of our counrty. This is not written in their character and it is better they should continue to do what they are doing. How Mr. Bardhan dreams for a ministry position ... it is the time of all these veterans to spend their retirement and allow the next generation to run the country.

Vote for the thrid front? by megh on 24 Mar 2008

I will vote for even Rabri or Mayawati if i had no choice but would never even think of voting the chinese puppets in india. they are shameless, anti-national and anti-developmental.

ANY TOM DICK HARRY WILL DO BUT NOT COMMIES by rajababu on 24 Mar 2008

OF COURSE MR. BARDHAN, THERE SHOULD BE AN ALTERNATIVE , BUT DEFINITELY NOT COMMIES, WHO ARE ANTI HINDU/INDIA, AND A DANGER TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY AS THE COMMIES OPENLY SUPPORT CHINA

India shall not trust communists at all and for all time to come by Raju on 24 Mar 2008

Sir, it is time for India to get rid of all the commis from all the states. Commis are the most disrespectful of democracy. We show their naked exibition of their morality and value for human lives in Nandigram. What India is today is not because of the commi bankrupt ideology but freedom of expression and trade. These commis are hypocrates, they need capital from capitalist nations, does any one remember the visit of Jyotrimoy Basu to USA with begging bowl for investiment in West Bengal. When the commis turn capitalist, for the TATA project they gave freedom to commi cader to kill in Nandigram and thousands got killed!

ALTERNATIVE TO CONG by SHIRASATISH on 24 Mar 2008

Mr ShafiYour message clearly speaks that COMMUNISTS are only for MUSLIMS and those who are Muslims should vote for Communists. Don't you think this is a communal politics. How can then the Communists be called Seculars while playing Muslim card?

UNITY , LEFT UNITY by satyarthi on 23 Mar 2008

unity unity unity, why don't they merge?

Leftists by Suresh Iyer on 23 Mar 2008

Congress made a mistake in creating a Government which consists of opportunists (leftist). Barring three States viz. Bengal, Tripura and Kerala (where the leftists are the Goondas using illetrate people to do its acts), there is no other state where these idiots have been supported. Come on Congress and BJP to unite together for a better India. Keep the opportunists away from Indian politics.

VOTE COMMUNIST by indian on 23 Mar 2008

ONLY COMMUNIST KNOW HOW TO GOVERN.THEY HAVE SHOWN THIS IN WB.PEOPLE SHOULD VOTE COMMUNIST IN NEXT GENERAL ELECTION.

These commies in WB by Anant on 24 Mar 2008

Of course, only Commies know how to govern. No wonder, West Bengal is heaven on earth due to 30 years of commie rule.Every state in India should follow the gr8 rule of commies and make India West Bengal.

communist by A Bengali on 23 Mar 2008

from last thirty years these goondas are ruling WB, then WB should be golden state. But it is worser than Bihar now. I think the word nandigram is sufficient to say about their competency in killing their own people like china did in thianmen chowk

Communist by Sanil on 23 Mar 2008

Depends what you call GOVERNANCE. If governance means 5 year plans for the creation of poverty, well planned creation of slums and slum life(instead of helping those people help themselves to develop themselves to rise above poverty level), underdevelopment, stagnation and backwardness, curbing the individual freedoms of people and preventing them from developing their talents, killing the people's skills by the state decising who should do what, lack of industrialization, lack of basic infrastructure, an ailaing dying and broken basic infrastructure system(like sewers, CLEAN drinking water, electricity, roads, bridges etc), lack of a proper education system for Children, Child labour, Child abuse(of poor slum children) as happens in Bengal and specially in Calcutta, ...etc etc..,and finally killing democracy- if this is what you call GOVERNANCE- well surely then in your unique world Bengal is the most developed state. But Friend, to the non-communist world what you call governance - The rest of the world call that incompetence and a failed state or anarchy(in spite of you having a government for formality- a government thats totally useless and does not work).

So that they can make WHOLE INDIA other Bengal by Rohit on 23 Mar 2008
