"At no time have I said or implied that Gill had misused funds made available by government to the IHF for any personal purposes," Aiyar said in a statement.
The minister said his comments were ‘twisted beyond its intent’.
"This was an unforgivable distortion by the news channel concerned of a single sentence wrenched out of context and twisted beyond its intent by the anchor's commentary. I have no hesitation in publicly tendering my apology to Gill for this unintended slur on his unblemished reputation," he said.

This is day of reverence, as we see within us to see, are we hypocrite, wicked, deceptive, have I wronged anyone, have I erred in my thoughts and speech. Folks none is right, each one commits these mistakes regularly, as a consequence, you lose your mind, when you err, you wrong others and more so lose your perspective. Many of sickness and problems are because of these weaknesses. There has to be good conscience to overcome these areas, so that you live free from it. We need to so that we can be more productive and meaningful in this life. To overcome and have good conscience, lets pray: God Almighty, I acknowledge, I have sinned against You and all, I need deliverance from all areas of weakness, and I believe Jesus on Cross has provided this, as He said, His sacrifice was for my sins. Thank You God for Jesus, now I am changed for good. Amen
Oh Jesus please provide some common sense to Online Swamy so that he can understand the difference between this site and the church. Amen
That the state of hockey deteriorated under Gill is one thing and iyer being misquoted by journalists is another. It is decent of Iyer to have clarified and apologized for the wrongs done by press. But should gill not show the same decency and step aside ?He owes it to the nation
You are right to ask Gill to do the decent thing by standing down and let some proper person do the job. But as they say 'Once a cop always a cop'. He only thinks of his own ego and the booze bottle. Sadly there are too many like him on top of Indian sports organisations. They should be held accountable like anybody else.
do not see any reason why sports Minister Aiyar should have to apologise to Gill. Jurnos are well known for creating mischief by misquoting people. So called freedom of the press is not only abused in India it is also common even in the UK. Hardly surprising in one of the opinion polls conducted in the UK prostitutes ranked higher than media people for reliability. Regarding other foul mouthed comment posted by Dan, I will feel sorry for India if 'hang and shoot brigade' like him ever get into power. I am sure in our democratic society majority has better sense than listening to his kind of garbage and let that happen. By the way apart from being a former top cop well known for boozing what quaification has Gill got for leading a sporting body? Hardly surprising we are no doing all that well in hockey these days.
I guess Iyer and congress will sell their parents to these ppl if their chair is in problem. So I feel sorry for rest of Indians. Actually these politicians should be all hanged because if you charge them they will anyhow free themselves. Best is Hang all these bast**** or shoot them all. And I mean all not a single left. Let India start fresh again with young blood who are learned and professional. Who will serve India and India only.
Lick his shoes man. Be quick. Still some hockey is left and still some dignified players are left.Do it quick
