Police station Sopore registered an FIR 73/09 under section 302 against the army, police sources said.
The Army has also ordered an enquiry into the incident that occurred last evening.
"An enquiry has been ordered into the incident to identify the facts," an army spokesman said.
Police said the situation in the town was "tense" but under control after Mohammad Amin Tantray of Bomie-Sopore and Javid Ahmad of Muslimpeer-Sopore were killed and Firdous Ahmad was critically injured in the firing.
Official sources said prohibitory orders under section 144, promulgated last evening in the town, continue to be in force but locals allege that curfew has been imposed there and citizens are not being allowed to move out of their houses.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who is currently on a three-day tour of the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch ordered a magisterial enquiry into the incident and asked for the report to be submitted within 15 days.
While locals allege Army personnel moving in a bullet-proof vehicle resorted to firing at a place near a local bus stand without any provocation, the Army said militants in combat dress opened fire to escape from security forces.
The incident sparked off massive protests in the town last evening following which paramilitary forces opened fire at the agitators, injuring five people, official sources said.
DIG North Kashmir Abdul Gani Mir yesterday said, "We are investigating the nature of the incident as people complained that Army opened fire while Army says the casualties occurred in crossfire after a militant opened fire on them. We are investigating what actually happened."
Col Sanjeev, Commander of 22 Rashtriya Rifles said, "Our trooper was searching vehicles in the area. Two militants wearing 'pheran' (loose gown worn by Kashmiris during cold) refused to alight from a vehicle. When the trooper asked them to raise their hands they opened fire killing two persons."
Mass protests in J-K town over youths killing, curfew imposed
Curfew was imposed in Sopore town in north Kashmir that witnessed massive protests after two youths were killed and another was wounded in a firing incident even as a case was registered against the army in this regard.
"Curfew was promulgated in Sopore town as a precautionary measure," Deputy Commissioner of Baramulla Baseer Ahmad Khan told PTI.
The move came after thousands of people took to the streets at Bomie-Sopore and staged a massive demonstration this morning demanding punishment for security personnel, who allegedly fired at the youths last evening in which Mohammad Amin Tantray and Javid Ahmad died and Firdous Ahmad was injured.
The protesters carrying the body of one of the deceased also demanded withdrawal of troops from the area.
Meanwhile, a FIR under section 302 was lodged against the army at the Sopore police station, police sources said.
The army has also ordered an inquiry into the incident, a spokesman said.

sir,New strategy by ungrateful Kashmiris to rob and discredit India. Indian Army should not waste their blood in protecting ungrateful Kashmiris and should restrict itself to protect Goverrnment properties and let Kashmiri leaders/officers enjoy fruits of their actions ( accidental bullets).

There is no doubt that everyone wants to pin the blame on Indian Army for this one. Around the world Islamic jihadis have been successfully portraying US, Israle and Indian Army as evil who are out there to annihilate innocent muslims. It is high time for civilized people/nations around the world to rally behind the forces who are trying to secure liberal, civilized and modern world from these barbarians

Another incident where innocents are killed in the cross-fire between terrorists and security forces, and one of which the terrorists will try level best to take propaganda advantage. Murder case against the army (!)- which country does that except perhaps the super-secular India? The CM has ordered an enquiry, the army itself has ordered an enquiry, then why this murder case?? We don't have any dearth of people who would like to create psychological pressure and stress for the security forces in combat with secessionists and terrorists.

This is treason. The whole of the disturbed area shud be given over to Army and they shud not be answerable to anybody. And I hope Sonia n PM are do remember their "more minority coomunity recruitment required in Poloce n Army".

There are all possibilities that the militants themselves came in military uniform and fired at the civilians. So, dont jump into conclusion, make proper investigation and find out the culprits before filing case against the army, and dont spoil their morale by framing fake cases against them.

The Army is known to be very disiplined and akways works in the interest of the nation. But the valley is full of Paki Trecherous Heathen (PTH) hence this cae must be investigated in full and if the PTH are found to have registered false cases as they are normally known to do then all of them should be very severely punished. It is high time that we the nation stopped molly coddling the the PTH (Pakistanis in the garb of Kashmiris)
When army personal asks civilian to obey the rule of law it is civilian,s duty to respct the same, Army personal most of the time very polite n firm, this civilian took them for local police , so they can be Ignore, so they paid the price. Indian army Zindabad, Jai hind.
