Ranbir’s taken well with the audience, and now that Riddhima is also settled, Neetu Singh might be seen in a new avataar, tells Rishi. “With the multiplex culture, people want to see different kind of films, and there is intelligent cinema happening now,” Rishi still approaches his roles with the same sincerity and passion as he did 35 years back. “The only difference is that I’m getting senior roles now,” he laughs. “But yes, never take success to head and failure to heart. I tell that to Ranbir too. You’ve got work on contacts, keep learning, increasing your bank of knowledge, observing for it helps you recreate moment while acting, it’s important.” Speaking of recreation, what about the remake of Karz? “Fantastic. It’s great that contemporary films like Don and Karz are being remade, but what I’m worried about is how will they recreate the music Karz had. It would be one Herculean task.” And Sholay? “It was iconic film, and you can’t remake films like these or for that matter Amar Akbar Anthony. It was a multi-starrer, actors who were riding high on the career chariots, a film that had amazing music, a fresh look about it, people were seeing the ‘angry young man’ Amitabh as a comedian, Neetu and I were paired up and then Parveen and Vinod...you can’t recreate that.”
Like a true Chuppie, he still slurps at the thought of Pal Dhabha, and gur melting in his mouth after roti, and in the same breath, he also salutes the swaying fields around him. “The Granary of India, Punjab is beautiful...I only wish that the farmers, for the glitter of one crore, don’t sell their land and regret later. Awareness about this needs to be created that there is no one-time carrot on stick.”
