Jammu NC rebel disqualified from party

Jammu Ruling National Conference rebel, Choudhary Bashir Ahmad Naaz, has been disqualified from the membership of the National Conference (NC) by its legislative party leader in Jammu.

This follows as he had joined Congress to contest on the party ticket from Poonch-Haveli assembly constituency during the recent assembly elections in the state. As per the information of the legislative assembly secretariat, Naaz, an elected member from Jammu province to the upper house of state legislature was disqualified on Wednesday from the membership of the legislative council by NC legislative party leader, M Y Taing.

He was retiring from the council membership on 9 March.

The seat has become vacant and the elections will be held on it later, Sources said.

Earlier Congress disqualified its MLC, Ashok Sharma, for his anti-party activities. He contested as an independent from Jammu West assembly constituency against the Congress party's official candidate.
