New Delhi, August 26: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday sought the Centre's immediate intervention in checking the ‘dual policy’ of state government in dealing with the situation in Kashmir as well as in Jammu.

"The situation in Jammu is being dealt with kid gloves while in Kashmir it is being done with an iron fist," the PDP chief said after meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

"The handling of the situation in both parts of the state spoke high of a dual policy of the state government," she said.

Mehbooba said she conveyed her concern over the deteriorating situation in the state over the Amarnath land transfer row and requested the Prime Minister that no unilateral decision should be taken to resolve the issue without taking into confidence the people of the valley.

"There is a need to find a middle ground," she claimed to have told Singh during her meeting.

"While sharing my concern, the Prime Minister assured that utmost care will be taken to restore normalcy in the state," Mehbooba said.

She said she had told the Prime Minister that in the wake of Pakistan's denial of allowing trade between Srinagar and Muzzafarabad, the Centre should take a ‘unilateral’ move of allowing a trade delegation from Kashmir to travel to Islamabad for discussion.
