Vadodra, December 6 The government of Japan has signed a $84,994 grant contract with the Bhasha Research and Publication Centre, a city-based NGO, for the empowerment of the tribal community. The grant will be used for building an activity centre within the premises of the NGO’s Adivasi Academy at Tejgadh in Chhota Udepur taluka.

The contract was signed between the Consul of the Japanese Consulate, Mumbai, Akira Iwanade and the Secretary of Bhasha Research and Publication centre, Sandhya Gajjar, on Wednesday at the Adivasi academy under the Japanese government’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GAGP) initiative.

Iwanade said the contribution was part of Tokyo’s endeavour for the betterment of tribals. He said he was looking forward to more such fruitful relationships with Indian NGOs. In the current financial year, the Japanese Consulate, Mumbai, has so far disbursed grants amounting to $338,070 (Rs.1, 43,20,263). Bhasha Research and Publication Centre is the fourth recipient of the grant this year. Gajjar said the grant would be utilised to construct a well-equipped activity centre with a built-up area of 726 square metres. “The activity centre will facilitate and monitor community level activities in micro-finance, food-grain banks, water harvesting, literacy, healthcare and improved agriculture,” she said.
