Jammu A WEEK after a Territorial Army jawan deserted the force along with three assault rifles in Doda district and reportedly joined Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit, another jawan along with huge cash has disappeared under mysterious circumstances in border Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Identified as Sudhir Kindo of Chattisgarh and posted with Rashtriya Rifles as a ‘‘Dak Rider’’ (DR) at Thanamandi in border Rajouri district, the jawan has been missing along with Rs 56 lakh since March 12, said a Defence Ministry spokesman Colonel Biplab Nath. ‘‘We are looking into the matter and have informed the police as well,’’ he added.

Giving details, official sources said that the money was given him by other RR jawans to prepare bank drafts and send them to their respective family members at home.

However, the jawan did not reach the State bank of India (SBI) branch at Rajouri town on March 12, nor did he return to the unit.

This has been the third incident during the last one week wherein army and para military jawans had reportedly disappeared under mysterious circumstances. While a Territorial Army jawan in Doda has destered the force and joined Lashar ranks on Sunday last, a BSF jawan had disappeared from his native Chaudhary Nar village in Rajouri district a day later. However, after three days, the BSF jawan returned home saying that he was kidnapped by some unidentified people.
