Vadodara, May 13: In yet another case of honour killing, a retired army jawan has allegedly axed his 20-year-old daughter to death for marrying against his wishes.

Dhairvirsinh Bhedoriya was unhappy over the marriage of his daughter Vandana six months ago to a man of her choice.

He had fixed her marriage with some body else.

The incident occurred in the jawan's house in GIDC area of Makarpura in the outskirt of the city on Monday, police said.

Bhadoriya telephoned Vandana to come to his house in GIDC area for the collection of a cheque. When Vandana reached her father's housee, Bhadoriya tried to kill her by firing three rounds from a revolver.

When a youth staying in the locality came to her rescue, Bhadoriya took Vandana inside the house and allegedly killed her with an axe.

The youth alleged that Vandana's mother and sister also helped Bhadoniya in killing her.

Kusumben Bhadoriya, wife of the jawan, said their daughter marrying a Marathi youth was not approved by her husband and other family members because their caste did not permit such a wedlock.

Bhadoriya claimed that he was drunk at the time of the incident.

The incident comes close on the heels of a girl and her lover being killed by family members in a village in Karnal in Haryana.
