Chennai In a significant move, the AIADMK and the CPM on Friday jointly announced that they have formed an alliance for 2009's Lok Sabha elections.

The announcement came after the ‘wide ranging’ discussions, held between CPM general secretary Prakash Karat and his AIADMK counterpart Jayalalithaa on various issues.

After an hour-long meeting, Jayalalithaa described the meeting with Karat as ‘cordial’.

"I am happy with the meeting. AIADMK and CPM will enter into an electoral alliance (for the Lok Sabha elections)," she said.

Karat said the two parties would be holding more discussions.

Asked about the possible entry of other parties like PMK, Jayalalithaa said, "wait and see".

Slamming the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre on various fronts, she said, "We need a strong government that would restore the economy."

AIADMK allies with CPM by Chakkala on 07 Dec 2008

No-principle alliance. Jaya wants to come to power by hook or crook. Make money for herself and for her friend Sasikala. CPM wants power at somebody's cost. Tamil Nadu does not have any alternative, either DMK or AIDMK. Now CPM wants to emerge a national party. They have lost Kerala and W.Bengal. whereelse they will go. I scratch your back and you scratch mine is the policy.

AIADMK with CPI(M) by J.R.Krishnan on 06 Dec 2008

The alliance is made for each other. No principles except grabbing power at the cost of principles. Unfortunately Jaya who should have been shun by any right thinking Tamilian has no qualms with allying with anybody. CPM has also no scruples. It has only a heritage value. Let the alliance sink together. Added misery is DEVE GOWDA who has also no principles except to see that his family comes to power. Let Tamilians see the crisis and vote for a nationalist party who has the whole India vision like the BJP

Left by Comrade on 06 Dec 2008

Now that the left parties have lost power and influence at the center for them any donkey as a partner is good enough.

anti labour by Selvaraj on 06 Dec 2008

A few years back CPI(M) accused Jayalalitha of being anti labour, anti people etc etc. Now Karat finds Jaya a great friend.

JAYLALITHA JOINS HANDS WITH CPM by omchander on 06 Dec 2008

I think Jayalalitha is frustrated. She was trying to associate with the so-called THIRD FRONT once upon a time. She is a person who does not get along with any one. Brinda Karatwill also give Jayalalitha a tough time, with her outspoken nature, should there be a final understanding between AIDMK and CPM. I do not know how she may even dream of a strong government at the Centre. Time will tell us how many seats will this so-called merger get finally.

Nothing special by Karthikeyan R on 06 Dec 2008

Some days back it was seeming quite obvious that this alliance would materialize. And now it happened. In a country having politicians without any intention to serve people and simply make money, there is nothing special in this alliance. This is again a bad game.

Karat - jayalalithaaa duo by PIN on 05 Dec 2008

When the country is suffering under the influence of Paki terrorists, Jaya wants to come under the influence of a Chinese terrorist! She has no shame just like her nemesis Mosquito Kaerunanidhi. We would all have been happy if these trashy characters were bundled up and thrown in front of the terrorists on Nov 26th.

ADMK plusCPM=ZERO by Arul on 05 Dec 2008

Jayalalitha perhaps thinks that a color change will bring her some luck and CPM which is losing the national status by the hour feels some comfort. However, at the end they both will realise the truth that the end result is ZERO.

Jayalalitha joins hands with cpm. by padmesh kumar varma on 05 Dec 2008

Dear Sir, This is the worst alliance the CPM could make. It will proove Karat's 'waterloo' in days to come. The AIDMK is regarded as a communal party party working much on the lines like that of the RSS. Mr. Karat has made the CPM to lose its secular mask with this alliance.

CPM and Jaya, they deserve each other by Indian on 05 Dec 2008

Obviously she doesn't have any shame just like Karunanidhi, Sonia, Lallu and a bunch of others who are in public office just for making money, who apparently do not care for people. People beware of these goondas and don't vote for them. All of them have to driven out of our country and do not deserve a second glance. Leave them as fodder to wild animals and we will have done our country a big huge favour by shunning them for another hundred years. Give them a choice to clean up and stay out of politics so they can live or send them on vanavasa to oblivion by tieing them up together and see the fun.

Karat And JJ by ravishankar on 05 Dec 2008

It can neverhappen. Even if it materializes, it will break up within a month. Imgaine the Loud mouth Brinda Karat and Jayalalith getting along. To add to the misery they will have biggest liability Deva Gowda. Naidu joing them. I give it one month. Bjp is a far safer bet.

shameful episode by Ashoka Kumar Jha on 05 Dec 2008

AIDMK and CPM allience should be the best becase both the parties believes in not only deception, duplicity and falsehood but ANDHERA KAYAM RAHE of kilvish. Now it is up to the people of Tamil Nadu to decide, although this time it is Jaylalitas term.

The new Twist?? by Dr. Debasish Sarkar on 05 Dec 2008

Interesting enough, Miss. Jayalalithaa is acting, Just like Miss. Mamata Banerjee.. All these developments suggest us, that their end games are very nearer, and countdown begins.

Its not that much worse by Ram on 05 Dec 2008

I think its not that much bad. Actually MK shows clearly that he is willing to go to any extent to coverup his failure.1. Took SL issue to cover up power failure.2. Since it is not succeeded and ready to accept maran, through that got biggest media support.3. Comedy of all, in June told he cannot continue alliance with PMK mind set people and taking a big U turn now.I think BJP is becoming untouchable in TN. Curious to c how V'kanth make his move. Though he is saying he'll be standing alone in election, now he lost Sun TV's coverage too because of the MK-Maran patchup. Hope he too will move to either of the side.

Shame on Jayalalitha by Ujwala Narayanan on 05 Dec 2008

Does this lady have no sense of shame whatsoever? Why does she not just give up poloitics and do some honest social work? She has already recived the curse of many mnay Hindus
