Ending on seven-under 277 for the tournament, the 37-year-old from Chandigarh was left thanking his good fortune, which had backed an anyway impressive week of golf.
“I had a good start marred by the ticklish weather which meant that I had to play extra rounds on the last two days. But I guess luck was on my side. Harrington and Ernie played some good golf and with the golfing gods on my side, I was fortunate to win the title,” Jeev told the The Indian Express by phone from Singapore.
“I started looking at the leaderboard after the first nine holes and knew I had a one-shot lead coming into the last. I wasn’t hitting my driver that well and opted for a three-wood,” said Jeev who was lying tied fifth before bad light stopped play with four more holes to go in the third round on Saturday.
On Sunday Jeev picked up a shot on the seventh hole before bogeys on the 13th and 16th marred his run, leaving things a little too close for comfort.
Jeev, who won $792,500, is now leading the Asian money-list by a healthy margin, and looks set to regain the Order of Merit title which he last won in 2006.
