Police said Sunil, the ornaments dealer from Meerut, was robbed off nearly Rs 46 lakh while on his way to Delhi in the bus.
The conductor died on the way to the hospital.
According to the police, four men travelling in a Tata Indica overtook the DTC bus at about 8 am and fired at the driver and conductor, forcing the driver to stop the bus.
The conductor was killed in the firing, while the driver had a close escape. Two men then entered the bus and snatched the bag with the cash from Sunil, threatening to kill him.
Deepak Ratan, Senior Superintendent of Police, Ghaziabad, said, “The men were armed with sophisticated weapons and were probably part of an organised gang.”
Constable Ramesh of the Uttar Pradesh police, who was travelling in the bus, tried to stop the robbers and was injured when one of the men fired at him. He is admitted in the district hospital in Ghaziabad and is said to be in a serious condition.
The police are clueless where the car disappeared even though checkposts along the highway (NH-58) were informed. The amount in the bag has also not confirmed.
