Chandigarh, January 16 A Theft of gold jewellery worth around Rs 5 to 6 lakh was reported during a party at Hotel Taj, Sector 17, Chandigarh. The complaint was lodged by a Ludhiana resident Pramod Kumar Bhardwaj, who alleged that someone had stolen his bag containing a diamond ring, a diamond set, two gold sets, a gold chain, two bracelets and a silver bowl which were kept in the bag.

According to the police, a group of people from Ludhiana were holding a party at the hotel. Bhardwaj had kept his jewellery bag near the place he was sitting while the party was on. He had gone out for a few minutes when someone slipped away with the bag.

"It appeared to be the job of somebody who was keeping watch over Bhardwaj. It might be someone from the guests as well. The possibility of the hotel staff's involvement can also not be ruled out," said one of the police officers at police station 17.

Meanwhile, city police have registered a case on charges of theft at police station 17 and were investigating the matter till the filing of this report.
