State's Forest and Tribal Welfare Department Minister Mangu Patel and Bharuch district authorities visited the 15-year-old victim's residence on Friday evening and handed over the reward.
Bharuch collector Murli Krishnan said Patel was accompanied by representatives of Vadodara-based NGOs. Later, Patan District Collector V R Rao said that District Primary Education Officer N K Patel gave the victim and her family the promised financial assistance.
It was following the Patan gangrape incident that Chief Minister Narendra Modi had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for the victim "for having shown the moral courage to report the incident to the police” by filing charges against the six teachers.
While the accused in the first case are yet to confess to their crimes, the Bharuch police arrested nine accused in the second case and have even obtained confessions. Both police departments await the sample test results from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL).
After arresting four accused on Wednesday, the police arrested five more on Friday rounding up almost all those named in the FIR. Investigation Officer DD Damor said, "The victim had charged 12 people in the case, but two names were duplicate, we have arrested nine of them." He added that all nine have confessed to committing the crime, which took place on February 2 in Jhagadia.
The arrested include Prakash Vasava, Nitin Vasava alias Puni, Mukesh Vasava alias Chilli, Brij Vasava alias Bhalu, Titu Vasava, Jayanti Patel, Ganga Vasava, Sanjay Vasava, Brijesh Vasava.
