Jharkhand CM Shibu Soren wins floor test

Ranchi, August 29: The Shibu Soren-led UPA government in Jharkhand on Friday won the floor test by a comfortable margin of eight votes.

A Lok Sabha member, Soren secured 42 votes in his favour against 34 after a day long debate on the trust vote moved by officiating parliamentary affairs minister Stephen Marandi.

In all 76 members participated in the voting.

Nominated MLAs Gallstone Joseph and suspended BJP MLA Kunti Singh abstained from voting while two other suspended BJP MLAs -- Vishnu Bhaiya and Manohar Tekriwal -- were restrained from voting following a Speaker's directive.

The Soren government took the floor test as per the Governor's directive following the resignation of former Chief Minister Madhu Koda.
