Jind, January 10 Jasbir Singh, a Class XI student, received bullet injuries after the police opened fire on a group of students protesting the demise of another student who was crushed to death by a speeding truck yesterday.

Sources said a dozen students and five policemen were injured during the clash between the agitating students and police.

Even Deputy Commissioner Yudhvir Singh received injuries from stones pelted by the students.

Students of Government Senior Secondary School gathered in front of the school premises today morning to protest the death of a student of the school. Police claim that the agitating students started throwing stones on the police force deployed there and the police firing was in retaliation.

A private vehicle and a police Gypsy were also set ablaze by the students, the police claimed.

Jasbir Singh who received bullet injuries, has been admitted to the Civil Hospital, where his condition is stated to be stable. The injured policemen have been identified as one inspector, one head constable and two constables.

Superintendent of Police Jagwant Singh Lamba said the agitating students were instigated by “anti-social elements”, who, he said, will be dealt with firmly.

Talking to mediapersons, Deputy Commissioner Yudhvir Singh said those who took law and order in their hands will not be spared at any cost. An inquiry has been ordered in this regard, he said, also suspecting the hand of “anti-social elements” in the incident.
