Washington Indian-American Governor of Louisiana State Bobby Jindal will deliver the Republican party's reply to US President Barack Obama's maiden State of the Union Address at the Congress on February 24.

The Republican leadership in the Congress tapped Jindal, seen as the fast emerging national leader of the party, a day after the White House announced that Obama would deliver his maiden State of the Union Address as President at the American Congress on February 24.

The 37-year-old Republican was invited by House Minority Leader John Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on Wednesday and assigned to deliver the party's response.

Jindal would make his address from Louisiana.

"Governor Jindal embodies what I have long said: the Republican Party must not be simply the party of 'opposition', but the party of better solutions," Boehner said in a statement.

Bobby Jindal by K. B. Kale on 13 Feb 2009

Booby Jindal, son of parents who were Indian citizen, will hopefully be President in 2016! However, he refuses to be connected to India and has also (I am told) has converted to Christianity! If he wins, he will be the first Asian-American President.Viva, Bobby.

Indian? by Sanket on 13 Feb 2009

Bobby Jindal probably is more popular in India than he is in the US. I fail to understand why this has to be any news in India when Mr Jindal never accepted any Indian connection for his popularity. We expresse.d similar jubiliations for Sunita Williams. Its high time we cashed in on "Indiann American " bandwagon

secret hindu by janvi on 13 Feb 2009

this guy is a secret hindu and obama a secret muslim.. they both pretend to be christian for politics

Presidential or Sacrifical lamb? by Jas on 13 Feb 2009

I think Jindal is being presented as sacrifial lamb till Obama's takes some tough/wrong decision and his popularity comes down. He may even be offered presidential nomination in next election, if the republican see no chance of winning.

Good candidate by Anon on 13 Feb 2009

Actually that is what happened in Luisiana also. The republicans saw no chance of winning and let Jindal run. he turned things around and won. People tend to like him. Also, he is not a rabid right winger like some of the others in the republican party. He is pretty moderate and level headed. Best chance Republicans ever had of taking back the white house either in four or eight years. Hope he has the sense to pick the right time to run - either 4 or eight years from now.

Not sacrificial lamb by mbennett on 13 Feb 2009

Don't be cynical. Obama is still popular but there are a few good subjects of constructive criticism available. Jindal is wize enough to stay low key and will benefit from the national exposure. Win/win for Repub. party.

Jindal by Belle Prtabhakar Shenoy on 13 Feb 2009

Jindal is a right wing religious nut. Jindal's party (Republicans) are making everything to make Obam's job harder. He and Sarah Palin will be the torch bearer for the heartless Republicans.

He is not Indian any more by robin on 13 Feb 2009

Jinal may be born to Indian parents but he is not Indian any more. He has changed his religion, name and has never seen anywhere acknowledging anything that is anything to do with India. He is not an Indian so stop being obsessed about him. This is the generation that is ashamed to admit that he is an Indian.

Presidential Candidate by Mathew on 12 Feb 2009

A Future Presidential Candidate, in the making. Now he is only 37.
