London , August 4: Aiming for a seat in a British university? Do prepare yourself to juggle your study with some part-time work to fund the rising costs of your living and higher education even if you are from a well-off family.

This inference can be drawn from a survey which has suggested that four in ten students will have to pay their way through university as it would be simply too expensive to make both ends meet in Britain without the additional income.

In fact, increasing costs of living and tuition fees are expected to raise the cost of university education to 10.8 billion pounds this year, simply an increase of 500 million pounds over 2007, ‘The Daily Telegraph’ reported.

So, undergraduates will need to earn a combined total of more than two billion pounds to fund their education, according to the survey by NatWest.

“Students are increasingly aware of the wider economic climate and this is filtering down into their decisions when they are choosing their university and also when deciding whether to take a part-time job during term-time,” said Mark Worthington, Head of Student Banking at NatWest.
