“He did commendable task of rehabilitation of people coming from the western part of Punjab after country’s partition and made efforts to settle them in India. He impressed upon leaders like Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, S. Pratap Singh Kairon and Giani Kartar Singh, who were at helm of affairs, to get important educational and other organisations established in Punjab. PAU is one such example,” said Dr Johal.
Dr Johl said that he had a unique experience of working with Dr Randhawa who, he said, was always concerned with Punjab’s development. Dr Johl said that it was due to the inspiration of Dr Randhawa that the decision of 30 standard acres of land was implemented that was based on a research paper written by him (Dr.Johl). The villagers and youth from rural areas reposed faith in Dr Randhawa, who too had an urge to serve for their cause. Dr Johl said that while celebrating Dr Randhawa’s birth anniversary we should endeavor to imbibe the fine qualities of the famous educationist.
Giving his views, Dr Sarjit Singh Gill, former director of Extension Education, PAU, said that Dr Randhawa considered students dear to him. Citing his experiences, Dr Gill said that Dr Randhawa always tried to frame rules that benefitted majority of students.
Among those present on the occasion were Dr. G.S. Sandhu, former president of Punjab Agricultural University Teachers Association, Mr S.P. Karkara, former PAU registrar, Mr D.S. Kang, former registrar of Punjabi University Patiala, Prof Hazara Singh, former head of the department of languages and journalism and Dr M.S. Tiwana, former dean of college of agriculture.
