Tena, who is just two films old in Bollywood, was surprised to find that her famous co-stars were very normal in real-life.
"They are not intimidating at all... They are just like regular people you meet everyday. They all made me feel so comfortable on the sets that I didn't feel awkward and enjoyed the whole process of filming the movie. I felt so relaxed around them and we used to have these long conversations it was a learning experience for me," said Tena.
The actress started her career in Bollywood with 'Yeh Faasley' and then went on to do 'Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande'. Both the films didn't do well at the box-office.
'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' is directed by John Madden and follows the story of a group of British people who come to holiday in India and find the new environment less luxurious than imagined but are forever transformed by their experiences.
Tena insists that she has worked hard to get this project and went through long and tiring shooting schedules.
"I gave three auditions to get this part... I was really nervous at first and was scared but after I gave my first audition I felt a little relaxed. Then they called me for the second round and I was really curious of what will happen. I lost patience after my third audition. But finally I got the part.
"I rehearsed a lot for the film. Before giving a final shot the director made us rehearse until we got it all right. It was a real good experience. I haven't seen this kind of practice in Bollywood. Although I have done only two movies I am not sure if this happens here," she said.
Talking about her co-star Dev Patel, Tena said, "Dev is just fun and adorable. He is full of energy and I was inspired by his style of acting. He is just spontaneous. I learnt a lot from him and had fun shooting with him."
The Bengaluru born model first came to limelight when she participated in reality show 'Get Gorgeous' and although she does not get many film offers she never has to sit at home, thanks to modelling.
"I am still new to this industry but so far my journey has been great... If not movies I have modelling assignments and ads in hand. So I am not sitting at home getting frustrated because of no work," Tena said.
As much as she hopes to have had a filmy background Tena is thankful to what all she has achieved.
"I have come a long way without any background in the industry and I am proud of myself. I have struggled, given auditions and still do it but I am never discouraged.
"It would have been good to have known someone who would help but I think it's good to know that at the end of the day it's all because of my hard work."
