Mumbai, January 4: Strongly defending policemen in connection with the molestation of two NRI women near a five star hotel during the new year celebrations, the Shiv Sena took a swipe at the media and especially the television channels for sensationalising the matter.

In an editorial in Samana, the Shiv Sena mouthpiece blamed the media for taking pot shots at the police and trying to behave as moral crusader when the reality was that they were being spurred by competition and the channels were trying to outdo one another in order to increase their TRP ratings.

Supporting the police, the editorial said how can the policemen be held accountable for such incidents which take place when the society itself is responsible for promoting drinking and disco culture.

The paper said the police did not falter in their duty in connection with the molestation case. But still they have been made the target of criticism and blame by the media.

The channels were trying to project themselves as crusaders of morality, but the real thing that is driving them is the urge to overtake one another in the competition, it added.

While condemning what happened to the two women, the daily said one should not lose sight of the fact that this was because of the pub culture that has permeated into society.

"While making the police the target of their attack, one should not forget that the two girls and their guardians had gone to the hotel for drinks.

It said what happened was shameful, but it is the society which has forgotten culture and values. The society must introspect, it added.

shiv sena itself is a party of drunkards

Mixed Culture by Raj on 05 Jan 2008

Eventhough what happened is absolutely not correct and culprits need to be punished, however, What were the two ladies doing at 1.45 at night on the beach with their companions? They knew is was 31st, the beach will be crowded with all the drunk

Shivsena defence by richard on 05 Jan 2008

Shivsena is right in defending the police chief in this matter. However it is Sena culture which made the youth challenge law, order and modesty in the name of Shivsena. If we want these kind things to be minimized, the community leaders and political leaders should advice their followers not become a threat to a society. A woman is the representation of a society. The society which does not honour her, cannot be honoured by anybody.

Sena defends police, blasts drinking culture by Rajesh Srivastava on 05 Jan 2008

Is drinking allowed only to politicians? What do Sena has to say about the fact that Jaswant Singh opened bottle of Champange in order to celebrate the return of Kidnapped Indian Airlines passengers from Kandahar? Wasn't that bad? One person was dead and we released a dreaded militant was released and politicians were celebrating like they won Pakistan

Loafer is he a hero? by Sanjay on 05 Jan 2008

In the age where the loafer is the hero, and this common place in movies and etc. They just get drunk and slap themselves on the back how great they are and how really achieved they are all against Hindu culture. Seeing them eat their non-veg, getting drunk, deluding themselves that they have any strength. Well a Drunk can be strong and have steady legs, can a person eating non-veg which clogs the arteries in the heart, also in the muscles, also in the brain, how can they be strong and have good stamina? One person told they have to drink in order to digest that non-veg food.Man emphasis on man should exercise self control in order that morality pervades, but when they are drunk, How? Having lived a Bhrama-acharya life for over 29 years, this is fact,it is upto to men to control them selves, women have no power in this, unless the man is of week, and feeble minded, only because of a week and feeble mind a man excuse his action, but there will be consequences of every actions as this incident shows.Hindu is a culture of self control, not a culture of self indulgences. The more we forget our culture the more we fall into chaos.

as above by Vinod on 05 Jan 2008

I agree Sena's view. During the late night an women with drunk and wearing tight attracting cloths walking in the street will definetly attract another drunk youth group. We have to respect and accept Islamic view on this whole episode. Islam prohibits both alcohol as well as such a exposing cloth to women.

Police apathy in the Juhu Molestation case. by Asifali Bandukwala on 05 Jan 2008

What ever may be the views of certain sections of on the role of the Police,it is abudently clear that the Police including the Commisskioner of Police and deputies failed in thier duty to protect the ladies who were moplested at Juhu,Mumbai. As commented upon earlier, the Police deliberately failed to charge the Accused for lesser offences which were bailable and so also the Magistrate who failed to take judicial notice of the incident reported and debated including about the nature of the offences. The Police including the Commissioner and his deputies in order to ensure that the washing of the crime have in keeping with the Comissioner's point of view that such in cidents are trivle and happen day to day and he cannopt poillce such incident. He requires to be dismkissed forthwith for derilection of his duties and so also his deputies by deliberately taking action and investigation and if it was so done the Accused could have been nabed immediately.Inn order to to unearthed this racket one has only to dial the police emergecy number and they will find that even after the caller being told that that assistace is on the way n oting of the sort happens and if the said number is redialed one is told that the local poplice station should be contacted. This how trhe Police has been functioning under CP Jhadav and his deputies.

juhu case by harish on 05 Jan 2008

Samana defends Police, blasts drinking culture by Col(ret)R.Aggarwala,Univ Faculty, USA(ret) on 05 Jan 2008

I agree with most of the issues raised in Samana. The TV channels like Headline News are indulging in ceaseless propaganda against the Indian culture, while it is they who have degraded the culture of Mumbai and other metros in India by eulogizing prostitutes like Britney, Paris and others to the young immature girls of India. No wonder these immature girls are taking them as their role models and thus themselves indulging in public immoral conduct of drinking,

Comnunal molestation by J. Basu on 05 Jan 2008

It is related to seclularism. Seclular muslim women who are wearing only burqas never get photographed by the media or get molested. Comnunal Hindoo women walking in bikinis and drinking are always molested and photographed by media. The enemies of seclularism are bringing up this issue to malign the seclular media led by minroty comnunity photographers and reporters.

Both religion and modern values responsible by Vasant on 04 Jan 2008

As the previous person said, modern values as well as ingrained religious discrimination against women are responsible. The age of women is anxiously awaited for the good of all mankind.

Comfort the victims first by Anup on 04 Jan 2008

People drink and dance in most modern societies of the world today. Such unworthy mob behavior is however unheard of. Indeed, lack of respect for women in modern values as well as religious tenets give rise to such violence over the course. First and foremost, victims should be comforted and the culprits brought to justice before discussing the theory.

Confusaed Argument by Lotus on 04 Jan 2008

Many occasional or moderate alcohal drinkers behave themselves. There's some truth to the Samana's argument, but these is an extreme usage of it to justify their arguments. It diverts attention from the main issue of lack of respect for women.

Sena blames pub culture by Leo on 04 Jan 2008

So we should really be closing the pubs and the bars.....but then what happens to the many Shiv Sainiks who own or patronise these joints?

Sena's message? by Jojo on 04 Jan 2008

"While making the police the target of their attack, one should not forget that the two girls and their guardians had gone to the hotel for drinks.” And how does that justify others attacking them; did they invite others to attack them? Is drinking socially a crime? If so, I'd like to bring to attention of these Sena guys that there is a Shiv temple in Ujjain, MP, where arack is offered as prasad. Ban the offering if you can!! Are these Sena guys even thinking before writing anything like this? The fault does not lie with the police or hotel or the people who were molested. Those who molested them and those who did not try to stop them, the photographers are the ones to be blamed.

A correction by Pradeep Menon on 04 Jan 2008

The statement"The channels were trying to project themselves as crusaders of morality, but the real thing that is driving them is the urge to overtake one another in the competition" Should have been"The Sena is trying to project themselves as crusaders of morality, but the real thing that is driving them is the urge to overtake one another in the politics"

Sena defends Police, blasts drinking culture by Col(ret)R.Aggarwala,Univ Faculty, USA(ret) on 05 Jan 2008

You are perfectly correct Pradeep. The female host of the Headless Headline News had the audacity to repeatedly declare KOENA's blast that the man who grabbed her naked 'kamar' should have his hands chopped off!! this is female barbarism, on top of shameless skin exposure and drinking in public. These channels live on such sensationalism.

Sena defends Police,blasts Drinking culture by Col(ret)R.Aggarwala,Univ Faculty,USA(ret) on 05 Jan 2008

Female hosts of this channel think that the man who grabbed the naked kamar of Koena should have his hands chopped! Is that not barbabaric? Pradeep is correct about these channels integrity.

Child abuse is a CRIME-says SHIVSENA by KTVReddy on 04 Jan 2008

This alRokade group was responsible for latest unrest t Pune/Mumbai during ambedorkian statue episodes and they thrive nod survive on illegal activities. There motive was to demand ransom and abuse children se""ual way as they are pervert to the core. This is group of family where consanguinity is encouraged and incest celebrated.Irony of story is that they have direct access to air India employee Kshirsagar ET all and he is ground staff at Mumbai airport. This are people should loose there jobs as they are direct threat to national security and no way can stay with nation's flag ship carrier. But we heard from HR that they have strong backward class lobby in air India and he is active member of employee union!!Oh my God!Local police at satara when contacted failed to listen to us and threted to file a fake chargesheet or get us killed in fake encounter.Maharthr Police is well known for that. Then we approached Satara CJM saying that we cannt attend court due to these al-rokade gang who is based at satara and have links with all hotels in the city as they do flesh trading-money launderng etc. and could get us killed easily. We are aware of broad day light murder at satara court compound right in front of police!!www.vasantrokade-exposed.com

Mumbai new year by vinayak on 04 Jan 2008

The very fact that there were thousands on road at that time and no body came to rescue of girls tells how our society is morally bankrupt. Why blame police. Their first responsibility was to take the girls and their companions to a safe place. Police say that all of them were drunk. Our media thinks that reporters are only spectators, If they had intervened, surely they would have got help from people around.
