Asked whether Basu should be awarded the Bharat Ratna, CPM Politburo member Biman Bose said, "I don't know whether Basu fulfils the parameters. If he fulfils it, Basu can be given the highest civilian award.''
Bose flayed senior BJP leader L K Advani writing to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh proposing the honour for Vajpayee saying the saffron party was ‘playing politics’ with the country's highest civilian award.
"I don't know the parameters under which Bharat Ratna is awarded or whether Vajpayee fulfils that criteria. But it is definite that they are doing politics over it,'' Bose said.

RatingComing from a highly sensitive State like Bengal one should spare a certain separate light while trying to make a merit judgement othe suitability of conferring Bharath Ratna to hon Jyothi Basu .If the nation by any way cant recognise the merit therein why not allow other counsels to set aside Bharat Ratna-B or a Bharath Ratna-C.Such provisions should be made or you risk vaccum as a result.You very well know what happens after Vaccum.Such questions arise in the first place due to the very reason that the civility is in a slumber of its own and is lost in some or the other merits forgetting the central argument or the just missed Central Argument. Also we are conveniently forgetting the conventions like REWARDS,ORDERS and HONOURS.such things it seems do not matter.So it is imperative for soceity to do its complete round of the affairs of the nation.I petition to the very few who are capable of going through such an excercise to come up with a suitable sounding Solution for a just end
Mr.Vajpayee may be awarded Bharat Ratna for allowing the barbarian Hindutva forces kill lacs of Muslims and also rape thousands of Muslim ladies in Gujarat .Also the Kargil 'vicory'.
CPM is trying to pressurise the congress party once again.They want their pound of flesh for supporting the Govt. No doubt that Mr.Jyoti Basu is a very senior CPM leader but his seniority does not warrant his nomination for the Bharat Ratna. How many people outside Bengal know anything about Mr.Jyoti Basu? His being CPM chief Minister of Bangal for 15 odd years does not qualify him for the coveted award. Does he have any achievement worth mentioning at national or international level? I think Mr.Atal Bihari Vajpayee is better qualified for the award than Mr.Jyoti Basu.

Jyoti Basu is the brain behind the impoverishment of West Bengal, forcing Bengalis to look elsewhere for employment. Richest to poorest state in a few years- that is one fact that cannot be denied.The Congress impoverished India for years with license raj, so is this a JIV (Joint Impoverishment Venture?).Other recipients of this award should feel ashamed to share a platform with Basu and return the award if he is awarded the same.

Ofcourse, Basu is a strong contender for the highest civilian award. Pls, go back to 60s for Basu's sacrifice. He would have led a happy and lavish life but he didn't. Staring from Dr Bidhan C Roy, to Mrs Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, and even Vajpaijee, Basu is a accepted personality. At the age of 93, he stills works by the party.
Comparing Mr.Basu with Mr. Vajpayee seems to be real good joke, One belongs to West Bengal and other is National known figure, Mr.Basu has not even contibute 1% in comparision to Mr.Vajpayee to the country
If Advani, by vouching Bharart Ratna for Mr.Vajpayee is political it equaly political for Mr.Bose's for Mr.Joti Basu.In India evwerything is political, be its development, relief to calminti victims, meeting terrirism, CBI fighting cases,to mention a few, list is exhaustive.Bharat Ratna and other civilian awards were in the past were awarded pure on poiltical compulsions and to those close to ruling party.By any standard My.Atalbihary Vajpayee deserves this.

The policy of communism is to be par with the comon labour and poor labour with having no money on hand be tomorrow's food. But many of communist leaders have the wealth even billioniers do not have. Let him give all his wealth to the poor and prove he is communist, then his name can be recommended for Bharat Ratna provided other qualities of him qualify for such honour.
Yes,he deserves Bharat Ratna for single-handedly destroying what was once a vibrant and prosperous premier industrial state,assiduously built by BC Roy, known as West Bengal.India has become a prisoner of politicians to award each other titles and positions depending upon who is in power.Merit is the last criterion,unless there is a popular clamour.There are many outstanding modern builders who deserve more than Basu.I appeal Mr.Basu to gracefully retire and spare his time for his family.For the life of me,I don't understand why India's politicians wish to die in " position".I myself retired at 49 at the top of my career to devote full time to family and my own hobbies.

What Jyoti Basu did for the nation? He has converted Bengal into Islamic Bangladesh for his vote-banks. In 1947 after partition, there were less than 10% muslims in Bengal, today it is over 25%. He also tranformed a prousperous Bengal into a destitute Bengal. I shall not be surprised, if Congress decorate that man with BR to get support for the nuclear-deal. BR has become Congress party's Dipawali gifts, they distribute it within their friends and collegues.

For what? For transforming Bengal from an Industrial Power house to nothing..For Converting Calcutta from a metro to a tier 2 city.
