KMC to vaccinate food handlers

kolkata, April 24 The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has decided to vaccinate all the food handlers of licensed restaurants in Kolkata. The decision was taken at a meeting of the civic body with the representatives of the Hotels and Restaurants Association of Eastern India, on Thursday.

Announcing this, member Mayor-in-Council Subodh Dey said, it has been decided that all food handlers would be vaccinated against Hepatitis A and Typhoid. “In the coming week we will get a list of people from the respective owners. They can choose the pharmaceutical company for the vaccine and pay them. KMC will supervise the whole process,” said Dey.

Senior Superintendent Dr Malakar of the KMC will be the in charge of the vaccination process. After the completion of the vaccination process, KMC will give a certificate to all the restaurants. Individuals will also be provided with the similar certificate. The process will start in the next 20 days and will be completed in three months. Earlier, KMC used to vaccinate the food handlers regularly but this process was stopped in 2004.
