Bangalore, May 14: Congress on Wednesday described a recent pre-poll survey on the second phase of Karnataka assembly elections which gave the edge to BJP as “politically motivated” and asserted the electorate would not be influenced by the findings.

The second phase will be held on May 16.

Such surveys are politically motivated and voters will not be influenced by them, State unit Congress spokesperson V S Ugrappa told a press conference here.

The pre-poll survey was conducted by NDTV and Indian Express.

Congress had earlier welcomed a similar survey which gave a clear edge to the party in the first phase of election held in 89 assembly segments in old Mysore region on May 10.

Several congress leaders including KPCC President M Mallikarjun Kharge and S M Krishna who is in-charge of poll management had welcomed the exit poll results carried out by CNNIBN and Deccan Herald.

Congress condemned the serial bomb blasts that rocked Jaipur and demanded action against the perpetrators.

However, the party slammed BJP for the “growth of terrorism,” which it said was on the rise after the then NDA government released hardcore terrorists and escorted them to Kandahar when an IA flight was hijacked to the Afghan town in 1999. “BJP is soft on terrorism”, Ugrappa charged, attacking the saffron party leaders who have unleashed a sustained attack on Congress on terrorism issue in this poll.

“The congress is sure to get majority in Karnataka” Ugrappa and another spokesman V R Sudarshan claimed.
