Kolkata, May 26 They described it as running from pillar to post but it seems that their endeavour has been in vain.

It was a squad of FC Bayern management including Hegel, director international operation, manager Uli Hoeness and media manager Arunava Chowdhury.

They had to wake up around 5.30 in the morning and travel nearly 115 km to Burdwan to meet state finance minister Nirupam Sen over the introduction of a residential soccer training school.

But the Bayern management returned empty-handed out of its six-and-half hours journey today.

Chowdhury told The Indian Express: “We went to Burdwan. Dr Nirupam Sen was with us. We had an informal discussion. Then we watched a local soccer match at Burdwan University ground and came back.” Asked about the state government’s initiatives to introduce an academy in association with FC Bayern, Chowdhury replied: “No such discussion took place. It was truly a tiresome journey. It is difficult to comment at the prospects of a football academy in Burdwan.” Amid the tiresome schedule, today’s afternoon session also saw some glittering moments at the CC&FC ground when the full German side taught the nuances of the game to 48 boys with an average age of 9-15 years.

The soccer crazy viewers at the CC&FC ground watched legendary goalkeeper Oliver Kahn explaining the art of dribbling and shooting to the boys. 6 boys with exemplary footbal skills were chosen by the Bayern’s coach Ottmer Hitzfield. Ziarat Ali, Subham Sarkar (Burdwan), Yoken Confectioner, Bridant Jaiswal, Suraj Dhopi (Kolkata) and Joel Fernandes (Goa) will have a rare opportunity to travel to the FC Bayern academy to receive training. According to the media manager, a few players of the team are expected to visit Peerless hospital tomorrow morning and Oliver Kahn and Brazilian World Cupper Z Roberto are likely to visit Mother Teresa house tomorrow.

The Mohun Bagan Club secretariat is trying to bring Kahn and others for the inauguration of Bagan’s souvenir shop at the club premises tomorrow morning. The media manager, however, said: “The programme is not in the itinerary. I am not sure whether they will be able to visit the club.”

Indian Football Association, meanwhile, claimed almost 95,000 tickets for tomorrow’s tie between FC Bayern and Mohan Bagan have been sold out.

The match will kick off at 6.15pm and Zee Sports will show the match live.

Efforts are on to convince the CM to inaugurate the match.
