Kalpana Chawla memorial to open 5 colleges

Chandigarh, March 16 The Kalpana Chawla Memorial Educational Society (KCMES) has announced the setting up of five academic institutions for higher studies in Punjab.

Addressing a media gathering today, Professor S C Gupta, Chairman, Kalpana Chawla Memorial Group of Colleges, a body under KCMES, announced the setting up of five educational institutions for higher studies in Punjab. The colleges would consist of an institute of engineering and technology, a school of business, an institute of pharmacy, a computer science institute and a college of education, all of which will begin functioning from July.

Professor Gupta said that the initial batches will be kicked off this July. The process of recruiting the faculty, and the construction of the new state-of-the-art building that will house the colleges has already reached their final stages.

The requisite sanction for setting up the institutes of engineering and technology have already been taken from AICTE and the group of colleges would be affiliated to the Punjab Technical University (PTU), Jalandhar. Courses in Information Technology, Computer Sciences, Mechanical and Electronics streams, degree courses for MBA, MCA, BBA, BCA will be provided in addition to Pharmacy and B.Ed degrees. An academic council, along with a Board of Directors consisting of eminent professional personalities from academics, industry, universities, corporate houses and various other regulatory bodies, will guide the efforts of the KCM group.

Prof Gupta added that the five colleges will be housed in an ultra-modern, centrally air-conditioned, wi-fi enabled mega campus which will be a composite of five campuses with modern hi-tech class rooms. The campuses would be situated on Banur-Tepla road in Shambhu Kalan village. Separate hostel facilities for boys and girl are in the offing. A fully air-conditioned virtual library, conference and seminar halls with seating capacities of 600 persons and fitted with projector screens and effective public address system are also going to come up.
