I knew nothing about Babri demolition: Kalyan Singh

Lucknow/Patna Notwithstanding Kalyan Singh's efforts to distance himself from Babri Masjid demolition, RJD chief Lalu Prasad made known his discomfiture with the former BJP leader's association with ally Samajwadi Party as he branded him a "convict" in the case on Saturday.

Prasad also questioned Kalyan Singh's role as a star campaigner for Samajwadi Party, which is contesting Lok Sabha elections in alliance with RJD.

"He (Kalyan) is a convict in the demolition of the Babri Masjid... Is he a member of SP?.. He is not a member of the SP," Prasad said, when his opinion was sought on the former UP Chief Minister's appeal to Muslims to "bury" the BJP.

Kalyan had made the appeal at an election rally on Friday, saying he had already "dug a grave" for BJP and Muslims should "put soil to fill it".

Kalyan, who was Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh when the Babri Masjid was demolished in Ayodhya on December 6, 1992, is an accused in the case.

Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, Kalyan quit the BJP to join hands with his erstwhile bete noire Mulayam Singh Yadav. Seeking to distance himself from the demolition, Kalyan Singh claimed that he was "kept in the dark" by BJP.

"I was told that nothing will happen (demolition of mosque)... there was a conspiracy by BJP behind it. Two big leaders who were kar sevavadis, had given to Supreme Court in writing that only a symbolic kar seva would be held there (in Ayodhya)," Kalyan Singh said.

Kalyan said that believing the two unnamed BJP leaders, he also told Supreme Court "that yes, I will provide security (to the mosque). However I can say that BJP leaders were probably thinking how to remove me, because I belong to the backward caste community, which is not acceptable to that party".

On Prasad's attack, Kalyan Singh responded by saying "he (Lalu) is referring to the past, he should speak about the present. Muslims have accepted me and I am comfortable with them, this is the fact today".

Read book to know about Babri Demolition by Vishwas Jayant on 04 May 2009

Erstwhile Home Secretary, Dr. Madhav Godbole's book "Unfinished Innings: Recollections and Reflections of a Civil Servant" (Orient Longman, 1996) gives the full account of the Babri Masjid demolition and should go a long way in clearing up the collective memory loss that seems to be afflicting our politicians! First Kalyan, now Uma..everyone who knew the most claiming to be in the dark. Yes, now in the darkness of their own lies. V. Jayant

Praan Jaavo, magar Vachan nahee Badalo ! by Aniyan on 04 May 2009

Kalyan Singh, just to get your Son elected, what all reverses are you making in your "once talented political life" ? Be brave and be your father's son, to admit that you had an important role in the demolition of Babri structure, which was planted on the chest of a Temple, by the invading Baber. "Pran jaawo, magar vachan nahee badalo".

babri demolition by vasudevan on 04 May 2009

The demolition took place 16 years ago and the then chief minister was mr. kalyan sings. It took 16 years for kalyan singh to say the he is not aware of this. It seems that the politians who are interested only to safe guard their own interest can say any nonsence and expect the public to belive their nonsences. Why can't these leaders to help people to forget the sad things which happend many years ago, instead what they want is fresh disturbances. I would request the majority of the Indians to boycott such leaders .

Must work on every lead provided by politician is distress. by Narinder Bhardwaj on 03 May 2009

We should not just throw these words in dustbin. He was chief Minister of state and he must have given in court an affidevit based on the information provided to him by his party leaders. Why should he give word to court when all leaders are afraid of saying any thing in court. Unfortunately the leaders who assured him or made scapegoat of him are aspiring to the highest post. This is not acceptable. We know one of them is telling a lie to the voters. It should be left to voters to tell who is tellig lie.

Was he Chief Minister or Village Barber by ANIL on 03 May 2009

Burn them, not in Effigies any more!! by Rajan Sharma on 03 May 2009

We all are sick of these leaders. Everytime, elections approach and we start hearing about Babri Masjid, about Ram Temple and to my surprise, these jokers do get benefitted out of these talks. And I must say that the fault lies with all of us here. Please start voting. Ours is a class that is leats interested in voting and then we have such clowns around. They are to be thrown away, they are to be burned in reality, not in effigies any more. If Varun speaks of Hindus, he is a culprit, and Lalu or Kalyan can speak anything against the nation or Hindus. BURN THEM!!!!!

I knew nothing about Babri demolition: Kalyan Singh by Javed Khan on 03 May 2009

Indeed ! ! ! Then Kalyan Singh must answer another important question. That is, whether he knew that he was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh during the period of the Babri demolition

I knew nothing about Babri demolition: Kalyan Singh by P LSelva Mani on 03 May 2009

We are very glad that the Muslims are awakening to the fact that all these so called " secular" leaders are not interested in their welfare but only their votes and are rejecting them. The Rajendar Sachhar Report on Minorities must have opened their eyes to reality as to how their own leaders betrayed and these politicians fooled them

Whom to believe by goldbugz on 03 May 2009

While working as Home Minister of India, India external Affairs minister went to Afghanistan to rescue Inidan hostages in exchange for a well known terrorist. Honourable L.K.Advani has denied all knowledge of that. Now Honourable Kalyan Singh says he did not know anything about the demolition of the Babri Masjid, while the world at large knew what was happening. Do these people live in 'Cocoons'?and totally insulated from happenings around them. Can they be believed for their promises?

Responsiblity needs to be there! by priya priyadarshini on 03 May 2009

This ie really funny to know that a member of a party does not know what his party does! Such things hurts the emotions of common masses when they come to know that their elected candidate does not keep the news regarding his own party and it's work. What is the use to elect such responsibleless persons?

Kalyan's amnesia ! by Ashutosh Kaul on 03 May 2009

kalyan singh is a typical example of a self centered individual, who has lost his way completely. He might want to reflect on the fact that when he felt proud to be a Hindu , he was the chief minister of UP. Now that he is identifying himself only with his caste and bringing shame to it; he is just a "Grave digger" , with no credibility among people !! Remember Vibhishan's have no respect in India even when they go to battle for SriRam. He may be suffering from amnesia but hopefully he may remember this part of the story.

He didn't know about Babri.. by Ram Singh on 03 May 2009

...and Advani didn't know about Kandahar, and, of course, Modi didn't know about the riots. Vote out these liars.

Turncoat by Mehrunnisa Ahmed on 03 May 2009

Kalyan singh is a turncoat and a crook. This smae man had told the audience in "Aap ki adalat" that he will be draped in BJP flag during his funeral. Will any musim believe him?We should spit on his face.

Hindus, Cowards by naresh on 03 May 2009

If the Hindus were half as brave as our history and mythologies claim them to be then there would be no Kashmir today. Including all those Hindu groups the Hindu population overall could have just accumulated themselves in the Kashmir region by the drones and could have well changed the name to Kailash, or so on. But cowardice runs in our genes, no wonder from Alexander to Musharraf they could dream of conquering India.

Cast your vote responsibly by Insaaniyat on 03 May 2009

Do we suffer from alzheimer's disease at all ages or we are just plain stupid? If the answer is negative, cast your vote responsibly. All those so-called leaders who publicly discuss sensitive issues ought to first explain what they had done to advance democratic values among their constituents and what they did when the law and order failed.

kaltan singh--a shameless liar by sushil verma on 03 May 2009

Kaltan Singh was the chief Minister at the time of the demolition. How could he have not known what was happening at Aydhya. Demolition did not take place throgh dynamite explosion that one could say happened in an instant which the district administration did not know about. It was a long process of actvity in which human manual labor of few hundred "kar sewaks" was inolved. How could he not have known it. Also, at the time he took credit for it which is open public knowledge. After 17 years he says that he was duped by the BJP. Only a fool, and seems Mulayam Singh is one of them, will believe him

Kalyan by Amit Sharma on 03 May 2009

I tell the truth. I was not informed of demolition of Babri Masjid. Even my mother did not tell me that I born from a cow. Honest to God. If I am lying, then may all minority votes go in my basket.

How about Hindu ??. by skg on 03 May 2009

People like Kalyan Singh don't even deserve any attention for shifting his loyality to Mulayam singh yadav. He has failed to serve his party like other sincere workers in BJP and has lost the opportunity to serve people. People who shift parties or change loyalities can't win all the time. What did he do to the people of U.P ?. Also, there is no point in talking about babri masjid now when this place is not even worshipped by Muslims. Hindus can't be treated like minorities in their own country .

Laloo/Kalyan and co by Dr Ash Sood, UK on 03 May 2009

Laloo Kalyan and company can go to the lowest esteem of human beings to gain a few votes, its' such a shame on the country and the people being used by them. I feel Lallo should be packed to 'SWAt' valley to live in a secular regimen of the'Talibans' who will definitely give him concession on 'Jajia' and may be make him their minister.

k singh by amjad on 03 May 2009

its a white lie that Kalyan Singh didnt know about the Babri Masjid demolition.I was in U.P at that time was witness to every thing. When every person in Ayodhya knew that it was going to happen on certain day and huge mob was collected in front of premises how can a chief minister didnt know about it.If he didnt know about it it is a lac of intelligence and Kalyan singh didnt have right to become a menister let apaet the chief menister.
