Kamala Surayya Trust formed

Thrissur A Trust in the name of noted English and Malayalam writer Kamala Surayya, who passed away last month, was constituted on Wednesday. The trust's activities would commence on July one at nearby Punnayurkulam, the writer's native place, Trust Chairman Dr Sukumar Azhikode told newsmen here on Monday.

K B Sukumaran will be its secretary. Surayya, who was born in the famous literary family of Nalapad (Nalapad Tharavadu), had embraced Islam few years ago. She was given a State funeral at the Palayam Juma Masjid in Thiruvananthapuram on June 2.

The writer's family members, friends and writers would be among the members of the Trust, Azhikode said. Twentytwo well-known literary figures like Akkitham, M T Vasudevan Nair and O N V Kurup had been enrolled as the trust patrons.
