Patiala, January 12 Punjab Cooperation Minister Capt Kanwaljit Singh today ruled out the possibility of privatisation of the Punjab State Electricity Board in the near future.

Talking to the media after inaugurating a library in memory of his late father Dara Singh, in the district Courts complex here today, Capt Singh said the government has planned thermal plants for generating power to meet the growing need in the state.

He said all the plans have been approved by the centre and its different ministries and it is the duty of the centre to ensure adequate coal supply for the new plants, although the cost has to be borne by the PSEB.

He admitted that PSEB was facing a problem on the economic front, but added that VAT collections in the state could bail out the government from the crisis. Earlier, addressing a gathering of lawyers in the central library, the Minister said that the judiciary has an important role to play in upholding human values and ensuring justice for all in society. He hoped that the pendency of cases in courts would reduce soon. He also announced a grant of Rs 6 lakh for the Bar Association for furniture, water-coolers and other necessities.

A block in the library was dedicated to Shaheed Bhagat Singh. Others present on the occasion included Inderjeet Singh Walia, District and Sessions Judge and Rakesh Gupta, president of Bar Association.
