Kapil, who made his India debut against Pakistan in 1978, was given a surprise party by his friends on Monday night but the former captain has no plans for celebrations on Tuesday and will spend the day at his home in New Delhi.
"Last night, my friends threw a surprise party for me and I enjoyed myself there. I will spend the day at home and the celebrations will happen on January 16, which is my daughter Amiya's birthday," said Kapil.
The all-rounder, who along with Bishan Singh Bedi and Sunil Gavaskar, was inducted into the ICC's Hall of Fame last week, said his birthday wish was to see the Indian cricket team touch new highs this year.
"You know I always breath cricket. I hope 2009 will be better than last year and I wish Indian cricket and the Indian Cricket League (ICL) will be more successful," said Kapil, who fell out with the BCCI after aligning with the ICL, a twenty20 venture declared rebel by the Board.
"My best wishes are with Indian cricket in general. I wish each one of our cricketers success at the international and domestic level," he added.
Arguably the best all-rounder that India produced, Kapil ended his Test career with a record 434 wickets and 5248 runs in 131 matches. His one-day record was no less admirable with 253 wickets and 3783 runs in 225 ODIs.
Kapil is currently engaged in a legal battle with the BCCI for stopping the pensions of former cricketers who have opted to work with the ICL, where he is the executive board chairman.

Although me being an Ambekar and very proud of the Gavaskars,Tendulkars and Vengsarkars,I have to say as an Indian Kapil is the ultimate cricketer in the world. The world cup was one man show.17 for 5? How in the world did we win that match, did not get disqualified, win the match and go on to bring the world cup.Kapil is the first man to make us proud Indians and hold our heads in respect.Kapil Sir I along with all Indians bow to you.True Hero and a real hero.
It is still like yesterday when Kapils Devils won the World Cup. We are yet to produce another Kapil in the last more than 15 years since he had stopped playing cricket at the highest level. I think I am lucky to be among the generation of cricket fans who had the opportunity to witness the legendary allrounder's in live be it the Turnbridge wells 266 or the decimation of the Australian batting way back in 1980 for an historic win to name a few. May God bless Kapil with many more years of fruitful life where he continues to strive for the betterment of the Cricket and cricketers in this country.
First of all, I would like to wish Kapil a very happy birthday!! Secondly, this is a message to the Indian Express. I cannot believe this is an original article as just every newspaper has the same details. However, please make sure that even if you are copying, copy it right. Kapil has 434 test wickets and not 431 as mentioned in the article.
Happy B'day Kapil paji tusi great ho
