New Delhi If the Congress is hoping for an encore of the 2004 understanding with the Left, CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat is not willing to play ball. His message is loud and clear — today’s political situation is very different from the one that existed five years ago.

“The political situation in 2009 is not a repeat of 2004, when six years of BJP misrule and communalism had to be fought as a central goal. After five years of the Congress-led government, the country cannot be subjected, once again, to the neo-liberal dogma and ‘crony capitalism’ of Congress leaders and their abandonment of the Nehruvian legacy to convert India into a junior partner of the US,” he said.

His comments came days after he indicated the possibility of the Left supporting a secular government, prompting Congress leaders to ask whether any party other than theirs had the strength to lead a secular front at the national level.

“The CPI(M) has called upon non-Congress secular parties to come together on a joint platform for an effective electoral alternative. Such a platform has to be built around pro-people economic policies, defence of secularism and for an independent foreign policy. The work is cut out for the Left and secular forces to present such an alternative,” Karat wrote in an article in the forthcoming edition of party mouthpiece People’s Democracy.

On the Congress national convention held in New Delhi this week, he said even though Sonia Gandhi claimed that Indira Gandhi’s decision to nationalise banks helped India’s financial sector to weather the global crisis, the Congress-led government “undermined” the financial sector by liberalisation and opening it up to foreign finance capital.

“Contrary to the Congress president’s assertions, the Manmohan Singh Government has proved to be nothing but a slavish follower of the Wall Street model of finance capitalism. Even in the last days of its regime, the Congress rulers are working overtime to effect policy changes by allowing FDI by foreign airlines in the civil aviation sector and liberalising the interpretation of FDI investment in other sectors,” he said.

Every body is talking about the industrial development in Gujarat. What is the state of education and health in Gujarat? Class IV and V students cannot read or write properly this is the quality of education in Gujarat and in health sector a common man cannot afford the price of medical expences which is uncontrolable. kerala is one of the most advanced state in India in health and education. this is only because of the influence of Communist parties .

Mr Prakash Karat what happened to the Pinayari Vijayan Scam in Kerala the C.B.I has asked permission from the communist government in kerala to enquire him What Happened?? Comunists must go for sanyasam by chanakya on 13 Feb 2009

Poor Karat. Always lives in dreams like his comrades. More than other political parties it is the cPM and CPI which are in need of partners to get a decent performance in the polls. Unfortunately both bJP and Cong has dumped them. Hence they are trying to run pillar to pillar to get some alternative. But I am sure this time people are very clear that they need to send communist parties to sanyasam. I wonder if these parties cross double digit in respective states. They will have to catch the finger of jaya lalitha and maya to get votes. So they should stop imagining their role after elections. Both Congress nad BJP area capable of getting required seats and for all practical purposes the lok sabha should consider strength minus communist parties. Even if both congress and BJP make an understanding about sharing the administration that would be far better than having CPM as ally

CPM - Karat by Vijay on 13 Feb 2009

I liked the one that said CPM - Corrupted Politically Mentally. Can we do a Narco Test on Karat? It would be really interesting to see what motivates him to ruin Mother India?

CPM_CONGRESS by Rajesh on 13 Feb 2009

FROM NRHRU TIME ONWARDS COMMUNISTS AND CONGRESS ARE IN HIDDEN TIE -UP. BOTH ARE ANT NATIONALS. LEADERS IN BOTH ARE CONTROLLED BY FOREIGNERS ALWAYS. A COCCUS THAT INCLUDEDS THE WELL WISHERES OF BOTH ARE THERE IN DELHI AND ARE DECIDING THE AGENDA OF INDIAN POLITICS. I.E WHY SUPREME COURT 'VERDICT ON CBI BECOMES SMALL TITLE AND MNAGLORE INCIDENECE BECOME HEAD TITLE IN MEDIA. BOTH CONGRESS AND COMMUNISTS ARE MAKING INDIANS FOOL.

Congress vs Communists by Vaid S C K on 13 Feb 2009

Congress and Communists have nothing in common except fooling the common man. Slogan of congress is to support aam admi and communists to nationalise poverty and inefficiency. Performance of these two parties in the last 60 years does not want any more proof due to dismal improvement in the living stadard of poor and prevalent corruption and rising crime. Statistics and facts do not show any resemblence. In this Lok Sabha election, people must vote with great care and defeat these both parties. Congress misrule has given birth to regional parties who have only one agenda- seizing power through vote bank and widening fissures of dicontent by way of advancing local issues revolving round caste/creed/reservation or language.

CPM and their big trick. by Dan on 13 Feb 2009

CPM is just trying to misguide the people for the votes. They are trying to damage the India merely for CPM's selffish motives. CPM is thinking that the citizens of the great INDIA are simply fools and donkeys. Let us vote against them and prove that CPM is really a joker's party.

Vote CMI (M) by Vijay on 13 Feb 2009

After making tremendous progress over past 20-25 years in West Bengal and Kerala, CPI (M) wants to lead India to 1st century BC! Kerala boast of highest literacy rate, so does Cuba; however, child prostitution is thriving in Kerala (search Indian express for the story), while in Cuba it is almost non-existant. Round 1 goes to Kerala over Cuba!

CPM''s joke on third secular front by Ravi on 13 Feb 2009

If the next election can make CPM understand what its real position is, it will be the greatest thing to happen to India. Unfortunately for both Kerala as well as W Bengal, the alternatives are as bad as the CPM. This seems to be the scenario through out the country. Parties do not win on positive votes. They see to be winning on negative votes. Given a choice, CPM would love to have Maya as the PM. India, as a country will make great progress under the stewardship of Maya in having statues for her through out the country. Patriotism as a word does not exist in the dictionary of Karat and Brinda. Karat is the real life Toohey of Ayn Rand.in “The Fountainhead”.

Communist mites by Hero Vaz on 13 Feb 2009

Ant slams the elephant !!! What a comedy. It won't be long before the Left's humbug is seen through and it is trampled underfoot by the political giants.

CPM and Singur killings by Priet on 13 Feb 2009

Ah. Karat and the CPM. What a joker and what a joke! How can the voters forget Gujarat riots and the Singur killings. CPM has a lot to answer. The only agenda of CPM is to make India subservient to China, and of course, hand over the entire north east and Kashmir to China. Shame on you Karat and shame on you CPM.

CPM and Singur by v subramanian on 13 Feb 2009

CPM did not cause Gujarat riots!

dear Indians dont vote for CPIM by shri on 13 Feb 2009

CPIM represents the saying dhobi ka kutta ghar ka na ghat ka , I hope people of India Esp W Bengal and kerala vote sensibly not because of congress but because if CPIM gets to power again we will be in 18th century they just want china to prosper and not India- this was clearly represented when achituanndan called sandeep a dog

Don't vote CPM by MM on 13 Feb 2009

Shri, I share your anguish. But if people of W.Bengal were to vote sensibly, they would have done so in the last 30 years. Don't expect anything from them. The rest of us Indians have to ensure that we vote for either the BJP or Cong only and make these guys' 50 odd seats irrelevant.

cpim by Soman on 13 Feb 2009

It was the Karnataka police who brought a dog in to Sandeep's house and created the whole situation
