Karunanidhi also questioned the rationale behind Brahmins wearing sacred thread.
"What is the need for these things in a country that has accepted all religions and preached equality of the same," he asked in a poem penned by him in the wake of caste-related violence in Madurai on Tuesday in which one person was killed in police firing.
He had on earlier occasions also ridiculed the practice of smearing ash or saffron on the forehead.
The DMK chief had made similar remarks on certain other Hindu customs earlier and described Hindus as ‘robbers’.
But later he clarified that he meant Hindus were robbers ‘who stole hearts’.
In the height of the Sethusamudram controversy, he had described Lord Ram as a ‘drunkard’ and wondered whether he was a qualified engineer to have built the Ramasethu.
In the poem, Karunanidhi described truth as God, adding that all people were equal before God and described as ‘ignorance’ those who were not aware of it.
"Caste differences are the offshoot of the branches called differences based on religion. Let’s chop off not only the branches but also uproot the tree to witness the emergence of a beautiful concept called equality," he said.
He also described as useless the face-off between believers and non-believers on the concept of God and said there was no point fighting over which faith was supreme.

I have an open question to Karunanidhi, how come he is always critising Hindus in the name of secularism. What about Muslims wearing skull cap in India are seculars and Hindus sporting tilaks should be killed as per Karunanidhi. Looks like he is going to lose the election and simply to create the vote bank and get the sympathy for LTTE he is doing that. He is such a power hungry that he has no regret to have alliance with Congress Party who had send the IPKF to Sri Lanka. In India to me life of Hindus is in danger they are getting killed every where. UPA govt. only agenda is to kill as many Hindus they can. I would request the fellow Hindu Indians to vote against UPA govt. and establish the BJP at center. Only BJP can provide the Safe, Secured and Prosperous India.Jai Hind
please karunanidhi, please meditate your self, because you have flipped.meditation selflessly helps you to attain human birth next time.
This old man has gone senile. Does he have guts to question anything on Islam? Will he ask a similar question as what is the need of praying 5 times a day? His days as a CM are numbered.
Karunanidhi seems to be nutcase, he is a politician and he should not be mixing religion and politics. We Hindu's have lived with these traditions for more than 5000 years and Karunanidhi has no right to attack us.Karunanidhi's attack on us Hindu's is not justified.
The religious faith and practices, if it is not bothering others, let it be. We cannot apply logic or find rational in all religious stuff. Any way none of the religions preach hatred, violence or killing. When people do such things in the name of religion, we have to raise our voice. If people get satisfaction and peace of mind by following some rituals, however strange or logically incorrect, let them continue with that. Let the religious reformers take up such issues, not politicians.
Tamils are the only Aryan race left in India as they celebrate Bull fight or Jallikattu as was done during Indus civilization. 'Jallikattu' is a major event in Madurai in TN and is held as a thanks giving ceremony for the animals that have helped in farm activities all the year round. Christian Animal rights activists in TN wage war against all Hindu traditions including the bull fighting during Pongal. Jallikattu is not cruel to the bulls. The bulls don't get hurt as is happening in Spain. The sport is thrilling. Jallikattu is to wrest the bounty, which is held in a cloth bag tied between the horns of the bulls. An agitated bull is let loose to run in an open space as a number of people attempt to tame the animal by controlling its horns with the victor taking the prize money home. The horns of the adorned bulls are made wet before the event and the animal is rubbed down with oil making it more difficult to hold onto. Bulls are drugged or fed alcohol to enrage them.
It is now accepted fact that Max Muller promoted the invasion theory and accordingly formulated the dates of Vedic origin and the differences in Aryan and Dravidian cultures so that English rulers could divide the societies bringing out the issues of race and color. Max Muller, was a British employee, appointed to rewrite the history of India. The idea that Sanskrit was an alien language and a Central Asian Race (Aryan) invaded India and brought with them their language, Sanskrit was promoted by Western scholars in order to show that Aryans were also invaders like Greeks, Arabs Mughals Europeans etc. They wanted to deny that India was called, "Aryavart" from time immemorial and Indians were called Aryas. Ancient Indian borders extended up to Iran and Iranians continued to be called Aryans. Tamils in India are the real Aryans. A megalithic terracotta plate found at Sulur, Coimbatore, is similar to that at Harappa. South Indian megalithic script of 2600 BC is related to the Indus script.
No we will put caps and beard and preach islam or other religion,or will put cooling glass like him..
His heart goes to those who killed thousands of innocents and the late Indian premier Rajiv Gandhi. What pleasure does it give him to write such comments injuring many. He talks about equality. Did he exercise equality in his own personal life, where he kept three wives officially known and who knows how many unofficial for him and his son Stalin, the No. 1 goonda of Madras. Indian politicians need a lot of introspection not on Hindus but to themselves.
Jain report says. "LTTE activities of arms smuggling, abduction of Indian citizens and officials and intimation of the law enforcement machinery were tolerated”. "The brutal murder of Eelam Peoples Revolutionary Liberation Front leader K Padmanabha along with 15 others in Madras on June 19, 1990 showed the "impunity with which the LTTE could operate in India," the report said. Karunanidhi had sought details of locations of LTTE hideouts from LTTE activist Naiesan and he directed TN police "to keep away from such places. Jain says "CM told Naiesan that the killing of Padmanabha was a necessity and so also of Vandaraja Perumal (former CM of the northeastern province of Sri Lanka) and that Naiesan should ensure that Karunanidhi was taken into confidence before such acts were committed." Jain characterizes the LTTE’s fight against the IPKF as “anti-national” and thus Karunanidhi who was aiding LTTE is an anti-national.
I think he has drunk...during day time..police arrest him for talking like this...Hey. Raj Thackeray..dont do in Maharastra..you are welcome to do anything against this person...
send KARUNANIDHI AND VEERAMANI to MOON in the immediate mission either by NASA or ISRO
why does he target Hindus only. Does he not see symbols used by other religions... eg. the cap of Muslims or the Cross ( holy water ) of the christians !!!....He does it not and again to applease the his vote bank. At old age his brains has gone for a walk
The Jain Commission came down heavily on Karunanidhi for abetting the LTTE. It blamed Singh and Chandra Shekhar for laxity in Rajiv killing on May 21, 1991. 110 witnesses over a period of five-and-a-half years Jain says "the LTTE was getting its supplies, including arms, ammunition, explosives, fuel and other essential items for its war in northern Sri Lanka against the Indian Peace Keeping Force from Tamil Nadu. That too with the support of the Tamil Nadu government and the connivance of the law enforcement authorities," LTTE sent emissaries to Karunanidhi for his support in their battle against the IPKF after DMK leader took over as CM in January 1989 following his party's decisive victory over the Congress and the AIDMK in the assembly elections in TN. Jain says "These overtures of the LTTE towards the DMK started a chain of events which led to LTTE's survival and growth in Tamil Nadu even after the hostilities between the IPKF and LTTE in Sri Lanka,"
Mr.Karunanidhi makes lot of sense atleast here and I appreciate it. However, I am against his tamil spirit. Indian spirit or better world citizen spirit is good. His views of equality amonst all people is perfect and is achieved in many countries but I am afraid only in India the intensity of caste system is so large and we have lot of progress to make. Shun all acharas without vicharas. Forget differences, help each other and get going!
Oh God!!! Can India be Saved??? India in the Hands of Politicians like this, I am sure,is not what Mahatma Gandhi envisaged. Mr.Karunanidhi is next going to Talk of Christians who wear the Crucifix and Muslims wearing the Purdha and their Beard and Sikhs wearing their Turban. I just hope HE does not talk of People wearing Dark Glasses who hide their eyes lest their True Ineer Feelings are displayed to the world.
Karunanidhi has become senile.Does he question baptism by the Christians, offering namaz 5 times a day by the Muslims. He is needlessly provoking controversy
Then on May 15, he elaborated on how the DMK "distanced itself" from the LTTE many years ago, and that just because the DMK had at one time supported "Tamil Eelam" it should not be construed that "we supported all the activities of the LTTE". The vacillation continued, and on June 3 Karunanidhi mooted a "Czech-type division" of Sri Lanka. The suggestion drew instant protests. Having been burnt by the dismissal of his Cabinet by Central government in 1976 and 1991, the prime political objective of Karunanidhi became one of survival. He performs acrobatic acts to have one foot planted in New Delhi irrespective of which Party gains power while keeping the other foot in Chennai. The Jain Commission probing the conspiracy angle of the Rajiv Gandhi assassination, in its interim report, indicted Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, former prime ministers V P Singh and Chandra Shekhar and Finance Minister P Chidambaram for lapses on various counts.

On June 3, 1986, Karunanidhi’s 62nd birthday function was held in Chennai. To support the Eelam cause, funds were collected from his well wishers and pledged that funds would be distributed to militants. These deeds of Karunanidhi in 1980s had a common linking strand. These were carried out merely to upstage the then Chief Minister MGR’s hand and not much with sincerity to the cause of Eelam Tamils. Then in May 2000, Karunanidhi as the Chief Minister waffled as follows: “On May 12, he said: "We (the DMK) will be happy if they (the LTTE) get Tamil Eelam, either through negotiations or through armed conflict." He assured the House at the same time that the State would not be allowed to be used as a base by the LTTE. On May 13, he did a volte face. He explained that he did not support the establishment of an independent Eelam and that what he meant was that he would be happy to see an end to the Sri Lankan conflict and the creation of conditions in which Tamils could live peacefully.

Any symbolic depiction of Hinduism or for that matter any religious belief is personal to the individual and While Karunanidhi has his right to express an opinion, I wish he had understood his role in society before voicing his opinion in a public forum. When you are the CM of a State, you are depicting authority and people in positions of power should express strong opinions with moderation and particularly at times of strife. Unfortunately Karunanidhi has not been diplomatic about this and hope he learns from it and is more careful about expressing views that hurt sentiments of a significant segment of the population.
We should not read too much of what a insane man talks. Why this old man wears yellow shawl. He makes an idiot of himself.
Can Karuna Nidhi say it for Muslims that why do have to wear Islamic cap or Burqa or four marriages or Haj or Urdu for Tamilian Muslims? No.Can he say anything disparaging against Christians? No.Infact Hindus appear to him as sheeps who can be taken foregranted without any risk.If only Hindus also could cut or slit throats on slightest religious provocation, had he or any else tried these stunts?Never.
Promoting nepotism became a passion for Karunanidhi. In early 1970s, while being the Chief Minister, Karunanidhi tried to promote his son M.K.Muthu against MGR in the movie field to check MGR’s influence among the party cadres. That step flopped. From 1990 he actively promoted his son M.K.Stalin as the next leader of DMK, to neutralize the ascendancy of Vaiko. This led to Vaiko leaving the DMK party. Some Highlights of Karunanidhi’s Deeds on the Eelam Issue. On September 15, 1981, Karunanidhi was arrested for protesting against the Sri Lankan government’s actions on Eelam Tamils. He was released two weeks later on September 29th. On July 27, 1983, Karunanidhi led a protest demonstration in Chennai, to condemn the ‘Black July’ atrocities against Eelam Tamils and plantation Tamils. He resigned his Anna Nagar constituency seat in the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly to show his solidarity for the plight of Eelam Tamils.
