Mumbai Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone terrorist arrested in the November 26 terror attacks in the city, was remanded in police custody till February 2 in the CST firing case.

Kasab has been in police custody since his arrest on the night of November 26 and has been booked in 12 cases by the city police.

He was last remanded in police custody on January 4 for his involvement with accomplice Ismail Khan in the shootout at the Cama and the Albless Hospital in south Mumbai.

Due to security concerns, Kasab was not produced in court today and Additional Metropolitan Magistrate N Shrimangale and Additional Public Prosecutor E B Dhamal were escorted to an undisclosed location, where the terrorist is being kept, for the hearing.

"It was argued that the police had to carry out further investigations in the case for which custody was needed," Dhamal said.

When asked by the court, Kasab said he had no complaints against the police, he said.

Kasab and his accomplice, Ismail Khan, had attacked the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus on the night of November 26 killing 58 persons and injuring over 100 in the indiscriminate firing.

Make a dfferent law for convicted terrorists. by (Dr.) B.N.Anand on 19 Jan 2009

I fear the trial of Kasab may get bogged down in the legal procedures and the case may not move further any fast. My bigger worry is that it may meet the fate like that of Maulana Masood Azhar, the Jai-e-sh chief ,who was in the prison for nearly five years. He could not be prosecuted. He then proved a big liabilityn for the country. The country is still paying a heavy price for that lapse.. The detention of Afzal Guru ,in whose case the legal proceedings have been completed but he is still waiting for his death sentence to be carried out. After all the terrorists can not be equated with any other criminal. Why we can't have courts which could expeditiously try the enemies of the country and then the administration carry out the death sentence as quickly as possible. Their mercy petitions must not be tagged with similar petitions of other criminals. The govt must act fast.I do not think any political party will be opposed to any such changes in law.
