The Kashmir University sources say that the inquiry is in the final stage and would be submitted anytime next week. They say that the top varsity official, M Y Bhat, who is the Deputy Registrar (Academics) in the varsity, is likely to be indicted by the inquiry committee, which has found sufficient evidence against the accused officer.

Last year, Kashmir University had advertised 14 posts for computer operators along with some other officials in the varsity. However, when the selection list was out, the names of several candidates, who didn't even appear in the interviews, figured in the list.

Soon after that, the candidates alleged favouritism. In fact, some of the members of the interview committee too raised objection to the selection list and sought the intervention of the Vice Chancellor of the varsity. The members of the interview panel had questioned the selection list saying it is contrary to their recommendations.

Soon after the allegations, the Kashmir University constituted an inquiry committee to look into the allegations. However, the incident took a new twist when J-K's Vigilance Commissioner informed the varsity about the involvement of the officer and called for an inquiry. The varsity also received a letter from the Financial Commissioner asking university administration to look into the irregularities against the officer.

Sources say the varsity's three member inquiry committee headed by Prof Farooq Ahmad of the Physics department has found sufficient evidence against the accused officer and is likely to indict him, in its report, for recruiting the candidates who didn't even appear in the interviews. The other members of the inquiry committee are Prof Khursheed Ahmad, Head of Commerce department and Dr Meraj-ud-din Dar, Director Information Technology and Support System (IT&SS). Sources say that the inquiry report would be submitted to Vice Chancellor, Prof Riyaz Punjabi next week.
