New Delhi, January 18 The ongoing Republic Day rehearsals will create a tough time for commuters in the Capital for the next three days.

Keeping the congestion in mind, the Traffic Police has requested motorists to avoid New Delhi area from 9 am till noon to avoid getting stuck in traffic. The rehearsals will be held on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Vijay Chowk, where the parade will assemble, will remain closed for traffic till the departure of the last contingent. The Traffic Police have strictly advised the motorists to keep away from Rafi Marg, Janpath, Mansingh Road and India Gate during these three hours.

The Traffic Police have said people working at north and south blocks should use an alternate route. "If the people are coming from south, they should come through south avenue, Dalhousie Road, Hukmi Bai Road, South Sunken Road to reach north or south block. Those coming from north should come through North Avenue, then turn to Brassy Avenue and the North Sunken Road to reach their destination," Joint Commissioner (Traffic) Qamar Ahmad said.

Those travelling from north Delhi to south Delhi or vice versa will also have a tough time. "They should simply avoid Raj Path from 9.45 am till departure of the parade on Rafi Marg, Janpath and Mansigh Road," Ahmad said.

The traffic police have suggested that the commuters can use the Ring Road or the Mathura Road instead. The motorists coming from Vinay Marg, Shanti Path and going to New Delhi and beyond are advised to take Sardar Patel Marg and reach Baba Kharag Singh Marg.

The buses from south Delhi heading to Central Secretariat and Connaught Place will be terminated at Vishwa Yuvak Kendra, Tyag Raj Marg and Krishna Menon Marg. While the buses coming from New Delhi Railway Station will go through Sardar Patel Marg, Simon Bouliver Marg, Upper Ridge Road, Park Street and then to Mandir Marg.
