Khate storms into semi-finals

New Delhi, January 8 Top seed Vilasier Khate reached the semi-finals of the Shri Ram Lal Cup AITA under-14 tennis tournament being held at Vasant Kunj, courtesy a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Shailendra Boniface here today.

In the semi-final, Khate will play third seed Shashank Nautiyal. Nautiyal survived a second set whitewash, reaching the last four with a 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 victory over fifth seed Jatinder Singh.

Sixth seed Aditya Sharma of Delhi made it to the semi-finals with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Tejas Kapoor. Kapoor had reached the quarter finals via a walkover.

Sushanta Mohanty will be his next opponent; Mohanty reached the semi-final with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Manish Drall of Delhi.

In the girls section, top seed Nehal Sahni cruised into the quarter finals with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Shivya Sachdeva. Her next opponent will be Sayeesha Dalal, who enjoyed a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Renu Sharma today.

Third seed Shreya Pasricha set up a quarter final clash with Medha Toor of Punjab, via a 6-2, 6-3 win over Jasbir Kaur.

Earlier, Toor had beaten eighth seed Shivani Manchanda of Delhi in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. Fifth seed Perkriti Malhotra advanced to the last eight with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win over Diksha Aggarwal.

Uttar Pradesh’s fourth seed Tahira Bhatti also made the quarter final with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Radhika Krishan Kumar. Sixth seed Priyanka Bhasin defeated Karman Kaur 6-1, 6-1 to book her last eight spot.

Second seed Niyati Aggarwal completed the semi-final line-up after she defeated Hasan Abdal Dhanoa 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
