The killer stretch has seen many such accidents in the past. Three motorcyclists have lost their lives while many have sustained injuries.
The families and even the political parties are blaming the Municipal Corporation for its lax attitude. Kamal Kharbanda, block president, Congress, said, "Accidents happen at this spot very frequently. The MC should take some precautionary measures but nothing has been done as yet."
The MC said maximum speed limit on the road is 40 km. However, during night people generally over speed their vehicles, which result in frequent accidents.
Dharam Singh, Building and Roadways superintending engineer, however, said, "We are sorry for these accidents, but over speeding is the only reason. Speed limit signs have been displayed at many places on the road but still commuters don't bother. However, we plan to put up grills on 3 to 4 curves on the road up to 6 feet in height. In addition, cat eye speed breakers will also be installed at such locations so that commuters can slow down."
The project that came up at the cost of Rs 57 crore was inaugurated one-and-a-half years back and since then several accidents have happened at the stretch. The MC had fixed railing on both sides of the bridge only after an accident took place.
