The accused—Sunder Yadav, the son of Dharamvir Yadav, a youth Congress leader, and Daljeet Singh Chopra, son-in-law of ACP Surender Singh in CAW, Outer district—who were reportedly drunk, were later released on bail.
According to police, Sushil Garg (60) owns the L-6 shop in Outer Circle, CP. The shop, earlier occupied by Nirula’s restaurant, is now shut and Garg had posted a security guard, Arvind.
On Sunday, Arvind reportedly saw Sunder and Daljeet (both in their mid 20s) urinating on the shutter of the shop at around 7 pm.
“He asked them not to urinate on the shutter but they misbehaved with him. When Arvind called my cousin Sunny Dhillon (22), they thrashed him,” said Sushil Garg’ son Yuvraj Garg (23).
Sunny then called Sushil and Yuvraj. When Yuvraj, who runs an Adidas showroom in Khan Market, called the PCR, the accused went to Marine restaurant for dinner. “They did not come out despite being called by a police officer,” Yuvraj said.
When Sushil reached the spot with his wife Suman Garg (58), around five PCR vans and 20 policemen had gathered. “They punched and kicked me even in front of the police. When aunty (Suman) tried to save me from Daljeet who was strangling me with my muffler, Sunder kicked her in the stomach, pulled her hair and dragged her. She fainted later,” said Sunny.
The two youths allegedly tore the dress of a police officer and manhandled them. “At the police station, the SHO and ACP were sitting with them,” said Sushil. The Garg family resides in Civil Lines.
The accused reportedly had a brawl with the police, threatened the victims, abused them with dire consequences in front of police.
The accused were taken to Connaught Place Police Station and booked for physical assault and molestation. They were out on the bail in the night.
Garg owns the property at L Block in Connaught Place which has been empty for the last few months. His two sons look after their Khan Market showroom.
A senior police officer said, “They have committed an offence and will be prosecuted for it. We may also add charges for disturbing and assaulting officers on duty against them.”
