Chandigarh, February 21

Frequent flyers to Mumbai now have a reason to smile about. KingFisher Airlines has introduced two flights to Mumbai via Delhi, on a daily basis, slated to begin from the month of March. In another significant move, the Airport has extended the timing of the last flight from 6pm to 8pm.

With this addition, it will be the third service to Mumbai from the city, after Jet Airways and Indian Airlines. While Jet Airways has a direct flight to Mumbai, Indian Airlines offers one to Mumbai via Delhi.

According to airport officials, all formalities have been completed and the wait is now for the time slot for the flights.

Airport Controller Suneel Dutt said, “The flight will be of a great help to frequent commuters. We have a huge traffic to cater to. The Kingfisher flight from Chandigarh-Delhi-Mumbai-Delhi-Chandigarh is definitely going to attract lots of passengers.”

Though the Airlines has completed most of its formalities including appointment of staff etc, it is yet to decide the fare for the journey. Officials are expecting the flights to be full, looking at the number of passengers travelling to Mumbai on a daily basis.

Meanwhile, commuters are a happy lot after learning about the new service. Manmohan Dass, a businessman and a frequent commuter to Mumbai said, “I am glad that another flight will start. It’s good that it’s via Delhi, as people like me can finish the work at Delhi Airport and then fly to Mumbai.” Another passenger Seema said, “The flight would be an added advantage for both commuters to Delhi as well as Mumbai.”

Meanwhile, the airport has relaxed the timings for the last flight to land at the airport. From the earlier timing of 6 pm, the last flight can now land at the airport by 8 pm.

Dutt added, “It has been quite some time since we landed at the airport at 8 pm in the night. This move will increase the total number of passengers traveling to Chandigarh.”
