Kiwi media calls Niranjan Shah a 'travelling goon'

Hamilton The BCCI's insistence on giving a cold shoulder to any player associated with the Indian Cricket League has infuriated the media in Hamilton which has described former Board secretary Niranjan Shah as a ‘travelling goon’ for his comments against ICL's Kiwi recruits.

"India is a great team, shame about the Board they are representing" -- read the headline of leading local daily 'New Zealand Herald's write-up by Dylan Cleaver.

Cleaver described Shah, here as the Indian team's administrative manager, as a ‘traveling goon’.

"It's one thing to pull two players out of a festival match in case they're contaminated by ex-ICL bacterium Hamish Marshall.

"It's two things to have New Zealand Cricket general manager of cricket Geoff Allott ring ICL virus Daryl Tuffey to ask him to withdraw from a State Championship match. But it's a truly absurd thing to flex their muscles in the commentary box for fear that Ravi Shastri (IPL) and Craig McMillan (ICL) might accidentally exchange bodily fluids that could eventually infect all the right-thinking people of the cricketing world," the newspaper wrote.

"The BCCI's travelling goon, Niranjan Shah, managed to keep a straight face when he told TV3: 'As far as we are concerned any commentator or somebody involved with an unauthorised tournament declared by the BCCI, our people will not take part in it'."

"Good grief. You can only laugh at their logic, though denying anybody the right to earn a living is ultimately not that funny," the writer added.

The local media slammed the BCCI for pushing New Zealand Cricket (NZC) to disassociate itself from any player who was involved in the rebel league.

At the start of the tour, BCCI had stopped Sachin Tendulkar and Dinesh Karthik playing in a match at Wellington, as Hamish Marshall, who had worn the Royal Bengal Tiger colours in ICL, was part of the local side.

The newspaper said it was none of BCCI's "business to dictate to another board, or television network, how to run their business."

Although the ICC had recently brought both the BCCI-sponsored IPL and the Essel Group-promoted ICL across the table in Johannesburg, the issue of recognising the ICL remained unresolved.

BCCI by skumar on 17 Mar 2009

BCCI, has no right flux their muscle to talk abt ICL, on the contrary they should invite the later to make a club to play a good cricket in India. Thus clearly shows the vested interest of Bcci Board Officials, as they are Mone Mongers. I should personnaly feel, we as spectators should boycot the BCCI organized cricket Match, to teach them a lesson. Gents pls keep supporting ICL as well and fight for them for their rights..

Shame by M on 17 Mar 2009

BCCI is a goon. What business do they have interfering in other countries board practices. The first banned all ICL players from representing Indian team. What are they next going to do, ban people who play in their backyard? Shame on you BCCI.

Kiwi Media calls Niranjan Shah a travelling goon by Ramesh on 17 Mar 2009

BCCI stands for "Big Corrupt Cricket Institution (of India)"

Hail NZL Media by Prakash on 16 Mar 2009

I am glad that some one had the guts to give it back to these BCCI jokers. Full marks for the NZL media. Its indeed none of BCCI's business, the scribe was right on the money. I am just wondering what happens if BCCI officials and ICL players happen to be on the same flight? Does this rule apply then also?. Indeed Niranjan Shah talks and acts like a nuthead

Money is Honey by Manjesh on 16 Mar 2009

We should appreciate the New Zealand media to have shown mirror to BCCI. Its high time that BCCI should behave like an professional organisation. Whats wrong if ICL has a parallel league which gives hope to many players.India is Cricket crazy nation, Everybody cannot get selected in Indian Team, but if similar league come's and give's chances to new player whts the harm? INDIA is a Democratic country and BCCI's principle's goes against it.

BCCI is biggest Goonda by rohit on 16 Mar 2009

BCCI is the biggest goonda in country. BCCI comprises of parasites who thrive on money shelled by common Indians to watch their favorite sport. Shame on bunch of parasites, leeches aka BCCI feeding on cesspool of lack of humanity in sports in India

Kiwi media calls Niranjan Shah a 'travelling goon' by Subramanian on 16 Mar 2009

i Do think so BCCI acts like cricket is only thier sport. Excuse me, We need all policitians out of that. that was the real reason for ICL formation. I support ICl and IPL. what the bloody business of BCCI to dictate terms to other players who are not in thier team. they should be taken to court in india and by ICC. ICC some how should not keeop quite. I would blame ICC for not taking action and supporting BCCI. ICC Should not allow these things to happen at all. Wake up ICC.Wake Up. dont budge to BCCI.

The dictator in the largest democracy.. by Prashant on 16 Mar 2009

BCCI actions are as absurd as trying to look for sand dunes in the pacific ocean. They are the dictators running free in the biggest democracy in the world.I am surprised though that while New Zealand media has found its voice against such tyranny, Indian media is still not ready to take a stand.Even when people like Kapil are being ridiculed

BCCI and ICL by Swamy on 16 Mar 2009

BCCI behavior is really disgusting. It shows how insecure they are. I'm surprised that the whole cricketing world is watching silently the bully tactics of BCCI. Since ICC seems spineless it is time for the Indian courts to put BCCI in its place.

Kiwi media calls Niranjan Shah a 'travelling goon' by Ram Rayaprolu on 15 Mar 2009

Niranjan Shaw is not just a travelling goon, but an illeterate idiot fit for dirty politics of Rural India. I remember during the last Indian tour, NZ immigration/custome authorities refused to let Harbhajan with his dirty shoes in the kit. I wonder how they allowed this foul mouthed, highly infective plague which goes by the name Niranjan. I want NZ media to stop calling him as Indian representative as majority of our people are nice and very hospitable to their guests and hosts equally. All test playing countries should refuse to play with India till BCCI stops bullying them. action like this just for six months will bring a refreshing change in the world cricket. We are tired of this unreasonable behaviour.

bcci by paul on 15 Mar 2009

Shameless gyus, that is BCCI in one word

BCCI - a big bully by sree on 15 Mar 2009

Its really shameful for the BCCI to act like a bully and a spoil sport. They are creating another form of apartheid in sports history. With each of its representatives a specimen themselves with least interest in the development of cricket and cricketers, it is only natural that they behave like delinquent child. God save India and cricket

KIWI MEDIA IS RIGHT by viv on 15 Mar 2009

ICL v/sBCCI by shashi on 15 Mar 2009

IT IS THE HIGH TIME THAT EVERY CRICKET BOARD SHOULD IGNORE BCCI AND START PLAYING WITH ICL .THEN ONLY BCCI WILL LEARN LESSON.THESE BCCI JOKERS(SEE THEIR FACES PAWAR,SHAH,SHETTY,SRINIVASAN)DO THEY LOOK LIKE OFFICIALS.THEY ARE PETTY BROKERS,IT IS SHAME ON OUR INDIANS.WHEN BCCI IS INDIPENDENT BODY,HOW CAN THEY DICTATE TERMS TO OTHER COUNTRY CRICKETERS AND HOW OTHERS ARE ACCEPTING ALSO MISTRY.WITH THESE TYPE OF GOONS ONLY GOD HAS TO SAVE THIS WONDERFULL CRICKET.

The BCCI Goons by Sunil on 15 Mar 2009

I agree. The BCCI s behaving like Indian cricket belongs to their grandfathers. Who are they to ban people? They should try to be fair because they supposedly represent all Indians.

Cricket Apartheid by Ravisankar on 15 Mar 2009

This is a sort of 'cricket-secularism', a concept found by the Indian BCCI only to thwart all cricket activities by the All time Great KAPIL DEV. BCCI's only aim is to show monopoly in cricket by selecting members of the team who are not at all fit. In the present-tense, Doni seem to defying all odds to have his own team who are all fit. Otherwise for years we had team with fit-for-nothing guys earlier and that too with all the fiery thretenings from Goons from D company. We cricket lovers in India really feel ashamed by the horrible treatment being meted out to the Great Kapil, whithout whom the world of cricket would not have popularised the ODI format.

Travelling Goon by Gururaj Rao on 15 Mar 2009

I for one agree even as an Indian. THis guy Niranjan Shah (sorry no Mr) is a goon and an insult to our nation. He does not understand basic etiquates of behaviour. it is high time such people are not allowed to tranish India's imgae by sending them out. He should be banned 200 km from any where cricket is involved.

BCCI and ICL by Hemant on 15 Mar 2009

Yes, BCCI has too far with this. They are trying to finish ICL whihc is bad. There are many good player in ICL and they have all the right to earn while they can.BCCI stand is also against fundamental right or individual choice of work. Why other board go with it? They should release BCCI is as strong as they think it is. The moment other board start standing up to BCCI , BCCI wil start stand down. At least Kiwi media calls it as it sees it. Look at our media none of it ever posed any question about BCCI's policy. Our media has to look after their source of income and access to players for Interview and Journalism , oh that can be redefined all the time.If BCCI insists on their policy there will be situation where India may be only country playing cricket.

ICL vs IPL by MVC on 15 Mar 2009

Let us have a contest between ICL and IPL ;) While IPL does provide an enetertainment to Cricket fans, surely ICL does provide opportunity to the cricketers who have talent!

Niranjan Shah-Travelling goon by sanjay on 15 Mar 2009

Shame.BCCI is represented by the bafoons like Niranjan Shah. What's his qualification, experience and services he rendered to Indian Cricket so far.I really get upset to see such characters representing one of the best Cricket Boards.

Imperialistic BCCI by Sujith on 15 Mar 2009

I would be tempted to say that the New Zealand press has been lenient in their criticism of BCCI. I feel ashamed myself to be called an Indian when BCCI declares new unethical measures against the participants of ICL. Our cricket team has been such a joy to watch recently with their superlative cricket and exemplary behaviour. They have been rightly branded as the rock stars of cricket. Its such a shame that BCCI is behaving like the EAST INDIA company of erstwhile British Empire. I am not sure why their actions cannot be challenged legally as it is the individual's right to work in a free market economy that is at stake. It would be a huge loss to cricket in general when a certain cricket board is dictating terms to the rest of the world, even more so when the board involved is from India which has been a victim of Imperialism in the past. This cannot be termed anything less than imperialism unleashed by BCCI which can have serious consequences.

BCCI by Najeeb on 16 Mar 2009

Sujith, you are absolutely correct. If BCCI does not want to recognise ICL, then atleast let ICL (players) earn their living by commentating etc. I am from Sri Lanka and I admire the present Indian team but NOT the people who run BCCI. Enough is enough.

Bcci by Subramanian on 16 Mar 2009

Yes you are right my friend. First of all we should change the office bearers of BCCI and no politician should lead. Then we can hope some relief

Yeah they are Thugs...... by Amit Purohit on 15 Mar 2009

It is ironical that the New Zealand press has correctly identified the person and abuse of power that is going on in India and that too riding on Goverrnment of India's Shoulders. These people have collectively denied the legendary Kapil Dev of and many othr former cricketers the basic respect they deserve. They are corporate thugs of Indian cricket
