Kode’s new assignment comes following promotion of judge Ashok Bhangale, who now becomes a High Court judge.
Kode, who delivered the judgement in the 1993 serial blasts case and sent 12 persons to the gallows, is one of the longest serving judges in a single court, hearing the proceedings in the 1993 serial blasts case for over ten years.
He reportedly never missed a day of work till the last week of June 2007 when he slipped in the bathroom and fractured his arm. On the advice of doctors, he took a few days off from perhaps the longest running criminal trial in the country.
Kode started his career as a defence lawyer after graduating from Government Law College in Mumbai. He became a prosecutor in 1987 and later a judge in a civil and sessions court.
He was promoted as a Principal Judge of a district court in 1993 and became the special TADA judge in March 1996.
