However, Kohar and his PA will be tried by the court now and evidences will be recorded against them. The next hearing is on February 16.
Notably, Vigilance Bureau (VB), which had booked Kohar and others, had filed an application in the court for its cancellation last year on the pretext that it could not get sufficient evidence.
On the basis of that application, which was accepted in the court at that time, the case was cancelled against 16, including Kohar's son Naib Singh and daughter-in-law Hardeep Kaur. But Kohar and his PA would be tried because charges against them were framed before the filing of the "cancellation of case application".
Notably, during the previous Congress government's tenure, Kohar and 17 more were booked by the VB on August 9, 2002, under the Prevention of Corruption Act by the then VB SSP Lok Nath Angra.
Kohar was booked for amassing assets beyond his source of income and purchasing benami property in the names of his relatives.
The VB had presented first challan against Kohar and Jarnail Singh on October4, 2002, and then a supplementary challan was presented in which 18 accused were named.
The VB had alleged that Kohar had misused his office for purchasing land and getting other benefits, including electric connections, and made property worth over Rs 20 crore. But after the SAD-BJP government came to power, the VB filed an application in the court in April 2007, saying that during its investigation nothing came out against Kohar and they do not want to prosecute him further.
Advocate of Kohar Sarabjit Singh said 16 have been discharged and now evidences would be recorded against the minister and his PA.
