Kolkata, February 12 In a first for the cricket-crazy city, fans will get the opportunity to book tickets for the upcoming Indian Premier league (IPL) matches at the Eden Gardens on their cellphones.

The new arrangement was recently worked out by the Indian cricket Board, which has entrusted world-renowned ticket-sellers Ticketpro to market the new-found concept.

The new ticket-booking facility was announced recently by BCCI vice-president Lalit Modi, and it augurs well for cricket fans at the eight IPL venues who wish to buy tickets without queueing up at the ground.

Explaining the novel concept, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) joint-secretary Samar Paul said that it opens up an entirely new avenue of booking tickets for cricket enthusiasts in the city. “For all the IPL matches that Eden Gardens will host, fans can book tickets just by a few clicks on their mobile phones. It’s a new concept for cricket matches in India. And the credit goes to the BCCI, which has tied-up with Ticketpro,” Paul told The Indian Express this evening.

The revelation, that Eden’s spectators can buy their match tickets using their cellphones, comes a day after Modi and representatives from Red Chillies Entertainment visited the ground and met up with top officials and Kolkata skipper Sourav Ganguly.

Eden Gardens will host seven home matches of the Kolkata team during the 45-day inaugural Twenty20 carnival starting April 17. And the facility to book tickets on mobile phones spans this all the matches.

The news comes in the backdrop of Modi’s call for upgrading the facilities extended to the spectators at the Eden Gardens.

Ticketpro is a fast-growing online booking facilitator which started its India operations back in 2006 with ticket-booking arrangements for the Bryan Adams concert at Mumbai and Bangalore.
