Pune, November 11 The Rs 300 crore Kondhwa Khurd land scandal will find an echo in the winter session of the State Legislative Assembly. City Congress MLA Balasaheb Shivarkar on Sunday said he will raise the issue in the assembly and draw the State Government’s attention to the series of irregularities in land deals which were first highlighted by The Indian Express on October 25.

“I will raise the issue in the legislative assembly as the land scam seems to be getting bigger and bigger everyday. Genuine plot holders are being duped through bogus correction deeds allegedly prepared by some Land Records department officials in connivance with land grabbers,” Shivarkar said.

Shivarkar, who has earlier written a letter to Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and Revenue Minister Narayan Rane seeking a deeper probe into the land scam, said that he will once again write to the CM urging him to expedite the ongoing investigations “which were moving at a snail’s pace.” Shivarkar said he has urged Deshmukh to investigate the allegations made by RTI applicant Altaf Naik that policemen attached to the Kondhwa police chowki were helping those involved in illegal land deals. Shivarkar has even written to Haveli sub-divisional tehsildar Tanaji Shinde, demanding that a report be submitted to him on completion of the inquiry into the bogus correction deeds.

The police too seems to be now moving on the fast track. A top crime branch official said that some of the leading builders and land sharks on police records, will soon be called for questioning in connection with irregularities.

The Kondhwa Khurd land scam came to light following an RTI application moved by Altaf Naik, a resident of Bhavani Peth. It was only after The Indian Express broke the story that the department enhanced the scope of the inquiry, bringing under its net more cases of falsification of entries in 7/12 extracts.

The Land Records department officials at the district collectorate last week said that the department was planning to file criminal complaints against those involved in preparing the bogus correction deeds and claimed that the scam could well run into over Rs 1,000 crore.
